Thanks for all the info! Great work!

I hear a rumor that Dave Spashett has lodged a protest as his car crossed the line first (1/12th mod). Does anyone have any more info on this?

Since there is no governing body for the race (unless the USTC counts?) I'm not sure who he could protest with. Since the track isn't equipped with any sort of photo finish system, there would have to be a clear video... but even then, I doubt they would overturn it unless there was clear evidence right at the track.

I think in a sport like this, you have to trust the timing system. That and mount your transponders as far forward as possible...

I guess it all comes down to where you mount your transponder..... Does not matter which car goes across the line first, it's when your transponder hits the counter.....

About the 1/12 scale finish, true that trust has to be with the timing system, but having the finish line app a meter before the loop is incorrect and a big mistake.

Imagine you think your done, you've crossed the line and let go of the throttle, your done and you've won ! IMO that's way out of line not having the loop at the finish line. Placing the transponder more forward doesn't help in a situation like this, remember it was 1/12 scale, not 1/5 scale

I was reading the results and how about Vicky Blackstock in 1/12 stock! Looks like hard work and lots of practice paid off in a BIG way.

Default Orr

Yeah.......Jon Orr runs a box stock 12L3. I know him very well and the only mod he does is slot the chassis for bumpy tracks.
Whick he did not do for this race.

His TC3 is all stock as well.

actually the loop is 22 inches wide and that means it's 11 inches before and after the finish line. so if you get into the loop it goes off but you have not crossed the line yet. the other point is the power in the transponder- higher voltage means higher signal. they did have a couple transponders die during the weekend. so if infact the car was going slow enough spashett could have crossed the checker line before john orr and actually won the race. that is a rule in the actual rule book. but I doubt that will happen since it would have to have a photo for them to prove it. they don't. I know why CEFX is doing it. just think, a car that was just built two weeks ago to win cleveland would just do wonders for the company. I don't blame them but that's racing.

I'm looking at the video and it really looks like Spashett took the line before Orr did!

I have the video also. It is really intense. I would make a short avi of the last 10 seconds or so to anyone that wants it.
