For those who run the Photon at Norcal Hobbies, what pinion/spur combo are you using for 17.5 blinky?

Thru lots of testing we have found that it depends on what motor you are using. I usually start with a FDR around 4 and move up from there.

+1

while not the same track - i was at jackson rc - last summer i spent a lot of time running 17.5 blinky with a 80t spur in order to get the motor farther back in the car and create more weight movement (and thus steering).

with a thunder power 17.5 & blue rotor i ran well under a 3.5 fdr.

IMPORTANT -- make sure you have a fan hard wired to the battery +/- inputs on the speedo blowing on your motor. it helps makes things last --- otherwise they will blow smoke!

Yes the Thunder Power motors have tons of advance and if you go too high they will get hot fast. Remember to check your fan often. Some fans that are hard wired to the battery will actually drop a couple thousand RPM as the throttle is applied. This won't happen when plugged into the receiver.

Thanks guys, ran the Photon last weekend. I'm definitely undergeared. Running at about 4.2 FDR with a Tekin Redline 17.5. Motor was running cool at ~110, but it was a cold day.

Great weekend of racing once again from TOP TEAM!! A region race was held at Middle River Hobbies (MRH) in Md.

Fast guy, team driver Larry F, once again shows that the new EX car and the current photon car are still running well and capable of holding TQ. Unfortunately the start of the A-main was a major train wreck, one car causing major carnage!! Larry getting delivered to back of the pack! He kept his calm, battled his way to the leaders to reel the leaders in, finishing a 3rd place finish. Good job driving the heck out of the car to get a podium finish overall!!

I myself started 7th on the grid finishing 4th overall. Its great to get help when needed. My day started a little slow, but by the 3rd round the car was really getting on pace.

Thanks to Larry, EJ, OD and the rest of the TOP TEAM!

BTW, if you guys wanted to know how was Larry's 12th scale car, he tq'd that class and won. Lets just say by the 2:30 mark of the 8 minute race, it was GAME OVER!
