Balancing from below the chassis to me makes more sense and should be more accurate.

Yes and no.
Yes you will see more difference.
But it's not more accurate. the result is the same.
When you are balancing from below it's easier to see the very small difference.

The shorter position is the same as the long position on the old HPI/HB steering blocks that we used to use (rubber tire). The longer position we used for foam tires here in the US.

Yes, the car is super light - Even with 5-cells at the Reedy Race and the 1425g limit I still had to add 55g to get my car to the legal limit - That's with a box stock kit with only titanium tie-rods added to the car. I did run a small servo but still I would have had to add quite a bit of weight.

As far as balancing, I prefer the holes in the shock towers as you don't need special balancing posts to check your car. You can simply use two xacto blades or even a 1.5mm wrench to lift the car. As long as the table you are checking on is close to level then you can feel very small differences in picking up/setting down the car to balance it (within 5g). I've double checked this with my 4 corner scales and I can get it closer this way than the balancing pins.

All the pictures I've seen seem to indicate nobody is running a servo saver? Do you guys not blow up servos that way?

I'm running a servo saver because I need it. I run a Kimbrough black medium.

Josh doesn't but he also doesn't crash.

Ah, cool. I was thinking about running the Tamiya one, it seems to feel more direct than the Kimbrough. I just need to get the arm anodized red instead of blue.

I'd be more willing to try no saver if Futaba sold its nylon gears in bulk. $40 for a full gear set it too rich for me.

Like Josh said, two exacto blades or 1.5mm wrenches on a relatively flat table. Set your ride height and droop, with your tires on and all electronics in the car including battery. LOL lift the car up and you can feel which side comes up first. You can also ask a friend to look at the tries while you lift.

I've also done it without tires on and just made sure that the chassis is parallel to the table. I think both ways will get the job done.

One of the guys I was racing with at the weekend was running a Photon and I got a chance to have a good look at it.
I have to say I was even more impressed with it in the flesh than in the pictures.
Im very tempted.
Perhaps next season!
