What are the reasons for different diff cone arrangements?

It gives a different spring tension. Fitting fewer washers was a solution for the blade breakages but not relevant any more.

In my opinion the standard arrangement works perfectly well for setting the diff, I see no reason to change.

I agree. But just curious you never know what you can find out on this forum eh

I use all 6 to get the tension I desire, and with the plates all the same way it takes up much less space.

I found with 5 plates and 1.5mm under the diff screw head I was able to run the 46mm driveshafts reliably with clearance for the blades, 44.5 on there at the mo but now my set up is a little wider than before I might revert to the 46mm

I haven't shimmed the front end to make it wider so far , on many setups people use wider front with 1mm shim etc.
What effect can happens by making front end wider?

does anyone use the gear diff made for the photon?

is it just for stock class, or can the diff cope with mod?

Hi, are there any distributors on here that would send TOP Photons and their parts to New Zealand? We want to run them here.
If so my email is: jeremy@monsterrc.co.nz

I think just about all the gear diffs were designed for stock classes (mainly 17.5), but it's not stopped anyone from using them in mod, wear being the main issue, with them maybe needing to be rebuilt more often, depending on how light the oil and how much power you put through them.

Not so keen on ball diffs myself so I'm going to put the Top diff you linked in my 10.5 SS and see how it goes, considering even if it wears faster I think the rebuild kit is like $8, so I figure if it gets maybe 6 meets between rebuilds or something like that I'm good with it.
