I was reading on the peak site that with a peak vantage, someone on the team went 150 runs between a cut. i forgot which brushes they used, but they only changed brushes 4 times.....incredible

Hello Switch Blade,

You did get it slightly wrong, I said I have done 150 runs with the motor, with the same armature and 4 sets of brushes to do those 150 runs.

I normaly cut the comm after about 10-12 runs and keep the same brushes.... I used Enduro Brushes by the way.
When the brushes are used and get slightly discolored I have found them to give me more power, run time is a litle less though!

All I can say is that this motor is by far the best motor I have ever tried, More Power, More Run Time, Faster Laptimes and most important, Less Maintainence!!

Cheers,
Eirik Andreassen

Stormer hobbies has one of two winds available.

If anyone knows, I'd appreciate it if you could explain the differences between the different models available, distinguished by a different sticker and different color endbell.

Thanks,
Josh

Hello Josh,

I will try and explain the differences the best I can!

The Peak Vantage Modified is tuned for Off-Road, the armature and wire size gives you a smooooth power curve!
It is Timed at 18deg and comes with Enduro Brushes.

The Peak Vantage Touring is tuned for Touring Cars, it has a slightly diffrent armature that has a "wilder" power curve that is best suited for the high traction TC tracks.
It is timed at 18deg and comes with Enduro Brushes.

The Peak Surikarn Editions is also tuned for Touring Cars and I believe it comes with a armature that has more power than the std touring version, but with a litle less efficiency.
It is timed at 24deg and comes with Sprint Brushes.

I could be wrong about this information, it has not been confirmed by Peak or anything so I am not 100% sure!
Should not be far of though!

However, there is a difference, not just the stickers!!!

Which ever you choose, I guarantee you will love it, trust me!!!

All the best!
Eirik

I ran my V2 12x2 Saturday night in mod buggy for the first time. I was pretty thrilled with how it ran. I geared 21x81 and it spooled up quick yet was very smooth as far as wheel spin.

Eirik, I'm still trying to learn about when to replace these brushes, you are saying to cut the motor about every 10-15 runs which is understandable and I can usually judge when a comm needs cutting, but what is the signal to you that you need to replace the brushes? I assume I'm running the enduros, they are the ones that came with the Orion Revolution 12x2 touring car version.

In advance thanks for your help.

Hello Racer-oZ,

I really dont know when it's time to cut the comm actually.
Only thing I have noticed is that when the run time is a litle off, it's time to change brushes and tru the comm!
I only tru the comm after a full day of racing or practice just to know everything is ok until next time....
I have done 20 packs without any rebuild at all and it looked fine!

This is with 12t, I guess it's diffrent with hotter winds...
Just inspect the motor after evry 6 runs or so and you will be fine I guess. Thats what I do!

Cheers Mate,
Eirik

Default Brushes

brushes need replacing if they are half the size or lower or if they are blue (burnt) you could do with some new brushes and a comm skimm

Orion says to try Ultimate Hobbies, Stormer Hobbies, or Hobby People for the motors, so in theory they should have the brushes also.
