Default Shock Placement

Not sure if I'll explain this well.

I understand the effects of changing the angle of the shock closer or further from verticle.

My question is if you kept roughly the same angle but did it using different mounting positions how does that change handling.

For example, I run a Tamiya that has the light weight reversible suspension.

So if I had a 60 degree shock angle
One achieved by mounting on the inner most mount on the shock tower and the middle mount on the lower arm
And the other is achieved using the middle shock tower mount and the outermost arm mount.

How do those handle differently?

I know the outer arm hole give a long moment arm, but how does that translate to what you would feel on the track?

One thing for sure is that even if the angle is the same but the shock is mounted on the outer holes (top and bottom) as oppose to the inner holes. It is like if you put a stiffer spring on the shock. Compresion and rebound do change slightly (a bit harder/stiffer) but they do. Also on the outer holes your shocks may not extend long enough for the proper droop to be effective. There are other differances but I'm probably not that good at trying to explain them.

A really helpful book that explains alot of setup and help understanding suspenions is the XXXmain book, it's like fifteen dollars and it is great, it is always in my box!!!
