HPI Cup Racer 1M
#1246
Hello all,
been lurking here for a few weeks now and have finally bite the bullet and purchased the 2.7RS, by the way this is the most informative thread on the CR on the NET, thanks guys. I have been involved in RC for some 25+ years starting off with cars and then moved onto gliders and planes. I have had a number of RC cars over the years and most recently have had a TA-03 and a F201 which was just stolen when my wife and I had our house robbed. As you can guess from the F201 I love really well done scale cars and that is what got me interested in the Cup Racer...they look fantastic. Anyhow I am starting to look at what to power it with and from reading every post, that took awhile, it seems that people like these with with a milder set up. I am totally comfortable specing power systems for my RC planes but when it come to cars I am at a bit of a loss especially with the difference between brushed and brushless systems wind count. I am guessing something like a 10.5 turn brushless system would be what I am looking for? Could be totally wrong here though as I do better when using the KV of a motor then the turns. Also wondering what Lipo packs people have used that fit the battery holder.
Thanks and looking forward to the build, attached is a 2.7RS that I saw up at Lime Rock over the summer, what a cool color.
Cheers,
Jim

I do think I want one of these.
But a 4WD 240Z or Datto 1600 (510)? WRONG!
Has anyone tried running one of these as a RWD? Maybe with a reversed spool in the front so you have some brakes?
Would be cool, especially as a rally car

Isn't a spool a solid axle?
I ran Tamiya M04 for long time.. no need for front brakes.. if you set it up right it will handle well as a 2wd drive. Have been planning on testing the CR that way as well.. especially when running the RSR body..
I also run a TC electric with one ways.. for brakes all you need to do is apply it progressively and it works great. If you slam them, yes the tail will spin out.
As for 4wd.. well this entire Hobby has gone that way to make these cars easier to drive.. take 1/8 scale on roads.. not many 1:1 scale GTP cars are awd with exception of audis

I certainly dont think its aimed overly at such a serious level of racing. And if it is being used as such, keep it 4WD by all means.
I would just like a RWD Datto :P
No need to get aggressive.

This is a fun car hands down.. whether you want to race it or just have fun. Has great looking scale bodies too. Right now I have the Datsun 510, ABC Celica 1600 (not painted yet) Tamiya Alfa Romeo GTA (my fav body) Tamiya Mini Cooper.. and will be picking up the Porsche RSR soon as well.
If you want to run it as a 2wd, do it by all means and have a blast. Remove that prop shaft and disassemble the CVDs to the front. Slap on the Porsche RSR and steer with the back wheels 70s style.. its all good!

Ok: Now let me get my head around this, since I don't have one to test.. a one-way installed back words... the effect would be free wheels on throttle and what would happen off throttle?

So forget I mentioned it
Rally tyres, 510 body, lifted suspension, RWD, brakes on the back only (handbrake style) and gravel sounds like a LOT of fun to me!

Early Mitsubishi EVO
2WD Cars
Ford Escort
