Default Gearing

I have two questions re gearing. What is the difference in using for example 90 tooth spur and a 30 tooth pinion against a 75 tooth spur and 25 tooth pinion?

Two equivalent motors one spins at 16,500 produces 85 watts the other spins at 17,300 and produces 80 watts. How would you gear these motors for an open flowing circuit? both motors Johnson 540's

The difference in the first question is just the effect it will have on between the motor and the driveshat, or whatever the spur gear is mounted on.

90/30 = farther apart.
75/25 = closer.
