Why are there no GT bodies for 1:12
I just watched the Rolex 24 at Daytona on SpeedTV and wow, that race was every bit of exciting. Last hour, there were four drivers on the same lap in the GTP class. As JPM was trying to hold onto first place with a car that was slower than the rest it dawned on me: Why are there no GT bodies for 1:12?
Really, the prototype cars are for modified racing and not all 1:12 racing is mod. I want to see some Mazdas, Porsche, Ferrari, Pontiac and Chevy's available. I'm not out to change the body rules for 1:12, just I would like to see some selection out there besides another GTP Bently look-a-like. With 3.7V Lipo, it could be fun to have some bigger bodied cars without roll-over antennas for the stock and spec classes.

Nobody wants them.
Way back when I think BoLink made several 1/12 scale bodies, including a 65 Mustang, 68 Camaro, and they also made a late model Camaro. I had one of the Camaro bodies. It looked great, but the handling was junk. I was racing with a small club back then (with a fiberglass 12L!)
I'm all for more realistic bodies, but not in 12th scale.

The cars are going to handle pretty bad without the downforce that the current bodies have. With everyone pretty much wanting to have single cell run 13.5 (4 cell stock speeds) the cars would be even harder to drive.
Personally, I'd like to see LMP style bodies (Audi, Peugeot, etc). What we have now is rather unrealistic.

While not a GT body this is the only sort-of different body I've seen for 1/12. This guy is hand pulling these and selling on ebay. But as I expected the handleing is not very good as others pointed out in prior replies.

Back in the days(1980's) everyone made some GT bodies for 1/12th.By everyone- Associated- Bolink- Parma-MRP( no protoform back then). But they were not that popular to run. By the way we all ran rear wings on the cars to make them work.I've still got my new in the bag Bolink Datsun 240Z in my garage. My first car I built had an Adjustable rear wing on my Datsun Z car. It was hooked up to the throttle servo - Way to much braking. It would spin the car around.
Back in the day we would race on a fixed schedule for either - GT- Nascar - F1 or Indy or GTP style bodies- All with wings. Also have a new F1 Associated Ferrari in the bag.

That's crap, quite honestly.
Look at the popularity of World GT and Vintage Trans Am and tell me that people don't want realistic racing bodies. Lesser handling isn't that big of an issue if the cars aren't so fast. When you get to slot car speeds, you need slot car bodies, and the only people who benefit from that are the top 2% of drivers who can feel a difference and actually drive the cars at that speed. Slow the cars down to human-controllable speeds and the aero isn't nearly as much of a factor as driving and setup.
GT bodies and slower speeds are not that hard to do. It makes the racing better and it keeps the interest high with racers. The more the cars look like blobs and door stops, the less a LOT of people care to do this hobby.
There is no reason to not have GT class racing bodies in 1/12th scale—other than the handful of RCtech regular naysayers who trumpet the omnipresent crutch, "it will never work because we all want speed over realism."
Hooey.
In fact, there are some rumors of a vintage IMSA GT class for 1/12th scale cars, spec motors and tires, and a fixed rollout window, as a sister class to the USVTA explosion. Who knows, it might actually bring everyone back to entertaining racing?

Leave 12th alone, run Trans Am or WGT or something else if thats the type of body you want....To me nothing says racecar like the little doorstop bodies on a 12th, most spectators can't tell the difference within reason between a overgrown slot car body and a more realistic looking GTP body, and the few who do know the difference can appreciate the shape of a modern 12th body and why it is built like it is... Just my opinion of course....

I found this body in my local hobbyshop, I think it's made by Andy's bodies. The owner said they were pretty popular back in the days. Too bad they don't make them anymore.

ApexSpeed those bodies look KillahZ
gto the guy only list like 2-4 of the Le Mans bodies on ebay at a time try searching "1/12 Scale Body CLEAR Le Mans Prototype"
I race with InspGdgt and that body looks Damn Kewl! The handling was'nt there but I have to agree that it is probably more due to the speeds of the cars and what people are used to running. We run 13.5/4 cell on a 60x60 foot track. I think the body would be o.k. on a slower layout but the track layout that day was the fastest track layout we have ever run at around a 7.5 fast lap for 12th scale.
I am sure the Body Makers are more then capable of making a more Realistic looking body that can provide good performance to

Ligier Maserati
Back in the 80's Associated had a Ligier Maserati that was awesome, very cool lines. Bolink even made a 12th scale van body, ran it on my Corally G and it ran just fine, granted the speeds were probably a bit slower in the late 80's and early 90's.

I forgot about that Assoicated body.It was one of the better GT's. Bolink had the Greenwood Vette. But the best wasn't a GT body but we ran it until we banned it down here the Florida Series- MRP, ASA Camaro.Got two of those on the retired shelf. Find the person that got all those Bolink molds. Maybe Associated still has their old molds?
By the way Andys was bought out by Trinity years ago.

I Think the only reason there are not more different bodies in 1/12th is they are hard to find but they are out there.
Bolink 1/12th

Delta Plastik

The body molds that Apexspeed posted pictures are the old Bolink/Jerobee molds but the price for the bodies I have been told are $40 each. More of a collectors price than a racers price.
