For cooling, the aluminum plate that goes inside the motor housing and the aluminum gear case cover both help some.

The standard (black .4 pitch) gears are great for getting low gear ratios - 43/35 * 3.055 = 3.75, and they can take crashes.

Also very stable on rubber tires/carpet when using tire prep, e.g., paragon fx.

Default ta03rs

nice ta03rs you got there. what kind of battery are you using in bathtub?
i got nimh 4200mah stick pack, but too tight. so i'm using 3300mah stick pack for bathtub chassis.

Hmmm, to be honest I've been running some old 2000 nicd stick packs in it, but I have new Trinity 5000 nimh Reference packs that I had planned on running Sat. Now am wondering if they'll even fit. Will have to try them tonight!

Keep us updated if they fit. I'm trying to see if I can get away with a lipo hardcase pack I have coming in for the tub chassis, but I do have the graphite chassis conversion as a last resort.

The only change I make to the kit setup is that I use 50wt oil in front and 30wt oil in back. (normally 25/25.)

Hi everyone,

I have a TA03F lying around from years ago, it is fully built up but in sore need of a rebuild. It has been collecting dust ever since I shifted. Everything is stock... (MSC, stock motor etc.)

I am thinking of rebuilding it from ground up but with much nicer parts then what I currently have, I have seen some of the builds in this forum and they look very impressive. I also have a Futaba T3PDF with a broken antenna, any idea where I could find one?

Would it be more worth it to buy hop up parts for it? Or look out for another complete car and cannibalize the parts from there? What are the costs involved? I am not looking to race or anything like that, just want a good looking/ relatively quick car that I can take out every now and then for some fun.

If I rebuilt it, what parts should I be looking out for first? ESC? New motor? One of those sweet graphite/CF chassis?

Anyone can point me in the right direction? Many thanks in advance!

i've got 3 tao3's sitting on the shelf. 1 tao3 dj edition, 1 tao3r-trf, and one that is fully optioned with top racing and kawada aftermarket parts.

From my experience you'd be better off canabalizing another car. You can upgrade it but then it's just going to shift where the breaking point on the car is and you'll have to upgrade that part. For example, On the rare occasion that I do break a part on one of the ta03's it's typically the lower hinge pin holder or something because i have aluminum a-rms, hubs, and hub carriers on the front ad rear.

The only thing I would really look at doing would be replacing the tub chassis. I snapped 2 plastic chassis when i tried to convert the ta03 dj edition to a rally car and run it around. Granted i did so jumping it off 18" jumps but from my experience that's the weakest point on the tub cars. Everything else is built like a tank.

for electronics I'd go for a 19turn or 10.5 or 13.5 (4300-5800kv) from my experience these cars do have a decent amount of drag and gearing is some what limited. That makes it difficult to run 17.5s 21.5's and even 13.5 some times. If you do actually want to race it get some of the tamiya .04 module black gears or dig up a robinson racing 48p conversion (I use this on all my ta03's) this will allow you to hit the lowe final drive ratio's you need to make the motor run where it needs to. Otherwise you can just scoop up some freshly rebuilt co27 stock motors or 19 turns on the fs/ft forum for super cheap (10 bux a piece) and 4 of those will outlast the car.

Hey fellow 03 Racers... I've been having a ball with mine since bringing it back out of storage... and it actually handles better than my 415

Just wanted to know has anyone tried these - http://www.yeahracing.com/catalog/al...bu-p-2302.html

I've tried some of their other bits like the rear uprights and they seem to work well though there does appear to be more play in them generally.

I am actually thinking of trying to get as many spares/options together and continuing to run my 03 instead of buying a new car ... I am not going to be racing regularly in 2009 at this stage and can't be bothered spending big $$ on a new car that will hardly get used

I don't think you need alum a arms for the TA03 as they add a tad bit extra strength but add extra weight and the 03 is already a heavy car.
