psycho thanks!!!!! I worked hard to make that car work and go fast. Next TCS race I will have some killer matched 3300's. I had unmatche 3300's from SMC. They ran well but not like the stuff I have for my Yoke SD so in the next few months I will be getting some good stuff. I'm actually looking at getting ceramic bearings and titanium screws for it.

I think I will run my 03R-S in GT2 and I'm working on a getting a 03F-S for GT1. I like the F in mod as it is more stable for me when ripping the throttle and slamming the brakes on.

I could only get big Tamiya A's to work. The new small ones sucked on my car. The old big A's wore perfect and no fraying the treads at all. So if that is what my car likes that is what I will feed it.

Is that car really going to be competitive in those classes? I ran my 03FS in GT2 here. I made the a-main, but was no match for the 04R's. I like the 26mm Type A's too. They work really well on slippy to moderately grippy surfaces. They don't work well for me on high grip VHT treated surfaces, though. The 26mm Type B's also work well when the temps come up. I only use the 24mm tires on high grip tracks. They work well in those situations.

My TA03R weighs 880g with motor and electrics (no batt or tires.) I don't weigh them without electrics.

and what do you use to remove e-clips?
they're a pain in the ass to take off, i've been trying to take one off for the pass hour

I'd have to put a set of rims on and weight the car. Since those are a fixed weight, I don't worry about them. I use the edge of a standard head jewlers screwdriver to remove c-clips. Just jam the corner of the screwdriver head between the clip and the post and it should pop off easily and not bend the clip. Just put your hand over it so it doesn't ping away somewhere so you can't find it!

Today someone came into our store and he was asked me across the store, "Hey!, will this body fit the TA03?" (a 200mm jetta)
I said "Oh man thats oldschool, any 190 mm will work for ya"
He said "Thanks for making fun of my ride jack@ss" and left.

I take pride in running my "Old School" 03's at the TCS races and when I almost win with it (2nd in GT2) I'm really proud of the fact that I used such an old car and still layed it down.

glad i found this thread. gives me hope to keep my 03r alive. a nitro guy at heart but i am so impressed with its performance. I was one of the first to purchase one a number of years ago when it just came out. Didn't race it just used it for backyard bashing for about a year and it's been on the shelf ever since collecting dust until the tcs last month when I decided to take a break from nitro to give the tcs a shot. I finished with a respectable 2nd place In gt3. I can recall only seeing tao4s The only advantage theo4s had was straightaway speed, but I (03r tub) was beating them in the turns. All my passes were done in the turns. The car had tons of steering but not too much. Before the tcs I was contemplating selling the car to possibly get an evoIII, but after the results I quickly changed my mind. This car will see many more tcs to come.

mr.lunt the 03 is a nice super stable car. I found all my 03's worked best with the Tamiya Big Type A tires. I have tried the newer smaller A's and they just don't seem to work as well for me and they actually wear harder. My Big A's show almost zero wear after a weekend of TCS racing.

My 03 was also fast in the corners but does lack tad bit of punch coming out of the corners and at the end of the straight. I plan on running my 03R-S in GT2 and I'm working on getting a 03F-S for GT1. I found that in GT1 the 03F is more stable in mod and under really hard breaking.

It also makes an awesome rally car. That's what I race my 03 in now. It is so well balanced, even on big jumps. mr.lunt, congrats on the podium finish. Hopefully we'll see you racing at TA's track in Sept.

I used med. narrow type A slicks since the older taller tires were significantly heavier . So acceleration out the turns weren't too bad. I also focused on carrying alot of momentum in and out the turns. The 03 is not the most effecient car so we have to compensate. Ido prefer the newer tires over the old since theres less flex on the walls. Tire wear wasn't too bad but then again I only ran them for that one day. For electronics I ran a10 year old Tekin speed star. I am contemplating a LRP competition for the next tcs. That should give me more punch. Right?
