You should be able to sand the wire with some 600 or so grit sand paper to take that coating off. Then you can color it black or what ever.

got bored today and cleaned up my already clean set up...

Shrink wrapped all solder spots(motor/lipo bullets), shrink wrapped all all wires. shrink wrap clear the lipo Battery, rewired the motor., finished the LRP Radical Fan kit. Installed Tamiya Body Post Adjuster

here is my masterpiece TC6.1 Worlds Car

Your motor will run cooler without the middle finned part of the lrp heatsink on your motor, all it's doing is blocking the airflow
