Default Anyone Still?

Is anyone still running 6 cell packs in there touring cars, and still actually competitive against lipos?

I really on't wanna go the lipo route, but if no is still using them, then I guess I shouldn't either. BTW I am runing 19 turn brushed.Don't noi lipo or nimh would be better anyways?

lipo is slower for maybe the first 2 laps, then they just keep going.

they are just more consistent, and nimh are harder to get now that lipo is getting bigger.

over 5 mins, lipo is far better.

cheers

Your maintenance time is better spent on the rest of your car.
Just charge your lipo and put it in there.
After the run, recharge it straight away. They like to be kept warm and cozy.

NIMH charge peak is higher, but they sag more under a load.

I went Lipo because I am lazy

Too lazy to buy an equaliser / discharger
too lazy to monitor peaks
Too lazy to discharge 6 packs after a race meat
Too lazy to buy new packs after 25-30 runs.
Too Lazy to solder up packs

I just took the lipo plunge because of replacement cost. Once you have to purchase batteries you would be insane to buy anything but lipo. Its tough to make the change until you know your batteries (nimh) are shot. Once they have lost their pop get lipo.

Maybe the better question is " are YOU still competitive with NiMh batteries". No one is forcing you to switch. I will say that I have no intention of ever buying another NiMh battery. Lipo has made my life alot easier.

You can buy a budget LiPO that is still decent for a lower price than you can buy an NiMH battery and the LiPO will last much longer and are easier to maintain. Do you have a charger that is compatible with LiPO's?

I run Promatch 4600 packs with an Integy 19turn in a TC3 and can be decently competitive. With the group i race with, it's more about set up and driving rather than equipment.
There are some in the club running lipos and brushless and their fast but the driving skills are a bit lacking and their are those who can drive and they are the ones winning, some lipo, some not.
I tell the new racers, work on your driving and set up before worrying about getting the latest go fast goodies.

It will pay off with LiPO in the long run though. You could go with (2) Zippy 4000mah LiPO's for $28 each and I have heard good things about them. You will easily pay $50 for a loose 6 cell NiMH pack. You will need at least so if you go with 2 that's at least $100 right there. Check out the Yeah Racing LiPO's too.

Now for some links:
Ultraline Hobbies sells Yeah Racing. http://www.ultralinehobbies.com/
Hobby City sells the Zippy LiPO's. http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=8357

You'll need to buy a balancer too which is about $30. I use the Electrifly Equinox but there are other good balancers too.
