ROAR 1/12 weight limit

ROAR 1/12 weight limit
To the powers that be:
There are conflict stories on what the weight limit will be for the Carpet Nationals. The rule book, and last time I checked the online rules said 880g. But I've heard this is wrong and I've heard different versions of what it should be.
With Brushless so prominent now, there is a reluctancly to go back to brushed but many of us don't want to give up 3 oz to the brushed cars. Most brushless only venues have adopted the 865g limit. Either way I, and many others would like an official call on what to expect at the Nationals so I can either countine brushless or revert back to brushed.

I believe this question came up last year, and was corrected in a post but not in the rules. The minimum weight for 1/12 4 cell is 794 grams.
However if you are using a brushless motor you cannot come close to this weight. At the Region 1 carpet race most cars were over 850, with one even over 900!
The ROAR Technical committee will have to look at raising the min weight for 1/12 to accomodate brushless motors, but I think someone has to ask first.

My MS3's run about 825-835g depending on front ends used. I know it's one of the leanest cars around. I have run against many others in the 875 range. You would think that you could see a clear difference. Not sure it's as big of an advantage we think, but I know that I am not willing to give it up!
We're snowed in on the west coast..... gonna be an rctech kinda day.

865 is the norm.. Hopefully Roar will go with this also.. :-)

There is a never ending typo on that one dimension.... every year its corrected in the online version of the rule book but never makes it to print.
The book will reflect 795g. Online version is now reflecting 795g.
But.. Blackstock just threw a wierd dimension at me... where is that normal Mike and when has ROAR ever run that? I'll do the research if you just direct the way.

IFMAR uses 865, which is more practical for brushless applications. I'd really like to see 1 cell lipo make its way into 1/'12th scale racing (nudge nudge ). With lipo, the smaller lighter ESC's coming out, and the lighter brushless motors, I think if the weight is changed it should be done with the realization that it's probably going to have to be revisited quickly. That is assuming that ROAR at some point approves 1 cell lipo for racing.

Single cell lipo is a VERY real happening currently in ROAR. We have requested submission of packs from MFG's to our lab for conditional approvals (so we may gather info to determine specs).... but for 2009, we will allow single cell lipo.... IF THE MFG'S ACTUALLY SEND SOMETHING TO ROAR FOR EVAULATION.

865g is the IFMAR rule. http://www.ifmar.org/pdf/ifmar_wc_el...track_2008.pdf
