I know you get what you pay for, but has anyone tried one of these? That sure is on the cheap...

dennyboy424 12-15-2008 11:35 AM

Its a 2s1p

RC_Dan 12-15-2008 11:43 AM

The Orion 3400-3800 are 2s1p as well, they seem to have plenty of power. Not that this is an Orion...

streetracer745 12-15-2008 02:01 PM

Zippy actually makes a really good batt... I havent run them but have seen some vids and know someone who runs one. Most people use them in big brushless conversions... Im sure these arent 25c ratings but I bet it is about 20c easily. Im sure it is just a copy of any orion batt.

SteveJa 12-15-2008 02:58 PM

i could get 4 of these for the price of one smc 5000........ might have to try one in my vta car.....

Born2Run 12-15-2008 11:57 PM

I will not be surprised if they performs better than the Orion 3800 30C that i paid 90.00 USD.

yeah,I know, It seems to be missing one key thing to be an orion. 150% mark-up....

I have one in a brushless PA-28, it will take off very quickly and has great run time. Never a prob.

It always strikes me a funny when every dog in the joint knows that Orion does not make the battery...they just put their name on it and mark up the price.

I have been using brushless motors in my planes for years and lipo for ever....before you could go into a hobby store and buy one, using batteries out of everything from cell phones to scanners...then buying single cells on line.

There is a line that you do get what you pay for, but you also might not get your full moneys worth.

Davidka 12-16-2008 06:13 AM

Orion's cells are made by Kokam who is a respected, quality cell maker. Most makers will not divulge who makes their cells, not that we would have heard of any of them.

This claims 25c constant but 30c burst. Shouldn't burst current be higher?

cherokee 12-16-2008 08:10 AM

From what I understand the tech behind Lithium batteries is pretty messy, there is a reason these cells come from Korea, China and the like.

BillySnarf 12-16-2008 12:14 PM

Alright... Im thinking of picking up about 4 of these... The price may be too irresistable.. I love cheap lipos.. Anyone used them or known anyone that has? The cheapest batts i have bought so far have been the Ultralines.. And i love them.. Work great to me... Hmmm, i wonder how these would compare to an Ultraline 4000?

streetracer745 12-16-2008 01:13 PM

If by ultraline you mean the yeah racing? Those are basically exact copies of Orion packs. I garuntee that these packs will perform just as well as any orion or SMC or maxamps or any high named pack out there. Zippy makes a good pack. Most of their cells are chinese but a few of their packs come from Korea, so its very possible that these new ones do. The thing you skip with zippy and hobbyking are the middle men(plural. There are a lot of them) That means you get similar quality and performance for fractions. I use Elite packs which are a little unknown. They are better than my maxamps any day

RCSteve93 12-16-2008 01:33 PM

I have 2 3s packs for my 18T made by Zippy packs. I am going to be testing them soon. So far, the quality is awesome.

Davidka 12-16-2008 01:39 PM

streetracer745, on what authority do you guarantee these packs? How can we know if it's a copy of an Orion? By the shape of the case? Do you know the chemistry in the cells are the same? What middle men?

If they cost $30 and other's cost $100 there is a good reason for it. Wait and see.
