Thanks goes out to Jim Skinner and the staff at Thunder Power for getting some packs and charger out to me in time to use it at the Northeast Grand Slam event at Fastcats this weekend. Still learning about our new TOP Photon, I was able to qualify 2nd and then move past AE's Kevin Herbert in the final to take the win. For anyone wondering... Yes, these packs are for real and were extremely impressive over the weekend. Being that I really didn't push the 8.44 limit and didn't do any heating, they ran awesome and I was able to run the same last lap as my fastest. I will be rockin them in my TC from now on as well as my 1/10 oval cars at the Birds in the 17.5, Mod and Enduro classes!!!

With a certain push towards the idea of a 3.7v lipo pack to give the ability to slow some classes, and open the motor market to the hotter, higher rpm motors... what would it take to create and submit for approval a pack using a size that is already being created in a 2s configuration, but instead of wiring those 2 cells in 2s, wire them in 1s2p.

Instead of retooling and creating an entirely new product with an entirely new size...what about utilizing the 6 cell size case, and producing a 3.7 SUPER pack.

1s2p packs would carry the same size & weight as the current packs, but offer twice the run time...

First... I am very interested in the packs with the larger wire and connectors for E-1/8 scale; so please keep us informed on the details and when they will be available.

Second... I am also looking for some LiPo packs for 1/10th scale touring and off-road; say around 4000mAh. What does Thunder Power offer in this area.

What are the chances of having a battery made with higher capacity over c rating in the 5000 mah size? The numbers are impressive, But i want higher capacitence over c rating, I have not seen the need for anything over 20c for any of my off road cars. My current setups are a T4 with mambamax 4600 system, I run it on 2s most of the time. I use a maxamps 8000 2s for my racing needs, its not hard to get 40+minutes on the track practicing. My other racer is a gorilla chassised Revo wuth a Neu 1515/2.5d motor and a quark 125 esc, usually fed on 5s 5000mah maxamp packs. I know a lot of people don't like maxamps, I haven't had no troubles. What i'm askingis, why make a 200 amp continous pack? Most will never see the max cont. even at a peak. Why not work on higher capacity in the same footprint? Even if you lose some c rating you get lighter and longer running pack for the money.

I guess if i broke it down to a single question, it would be. Why C rating over capacity?

The higher c rating will give you a higher voltage under a load while still keeping a smaller size. The size is limited by roar rules.

True on both accounts, But rc pro allows 2s, no limit on mah lipo's in pro truck, With a 7000 mah cell in a 5000 size, it would be possible to throw two packs in parallel in and have 14,000mah. Even at 15c continous rating, that'd be 210 amps cont. and the ability to run nitro's into the hour long time frame. Thats doing it with the required 3-5 second pits so the smokers don't feel cheated. My maxamps 8000 2s pack is 30 grams lighter than the Maxamps 4.4k 6 celled NIMH i was running previously, even if i lose the 30 grams or even pick up a few more, it'd be with it for the 3/4 again capacity. Another thing to think about, monster trucks and truggies. Running a 7000 mah cell on a 5000 size will allow better runtimes at a much lighter weight, BTW 7000 mah at 15c is still 105 amps continous, more than enough for the off-road crowd

Also, for those who have not seen it yet, our TP-610C charger/discharger with built-in balancer continues to be very, very popular for use with both aircraft and surface series batteries. It can charge 1-6S LiPo/LiFe (A123) batteries, 1-14 NiCd/NiMH cells and 6-12V Pb batteries at rates up to 10 amps, discharge at rates up to 2 amps and can automatically cycle Ni cells. It has a built-in LiPo/Life cell balancer and adapter board that allows the balancer to be used with Thunder Power (and compatible) and JST XH (as used on SMC, Venom and many other brand batteries) balance connectors. Other features include adjustable charge/discharge capacity/voltage cutoffs (such as 50% for storage, 95%, 100%, etc.) and a backlit LCD screen. Plus, all of these features are housed in a durable, lightweight and compact aluminum housing with a footprint smaller than just about any other charger in its class.

This weekend was my first time out with the new TP 40c 5000 mah pack and 610 charger. I must tell you guys, these are the real deal.

I did my testing in oval, were every little bit counts, and used Trinity, SMC, and Thunder Power packs. The TP was the fastest of all by over 3 seconds, which is about a lap!

The results were:

TP - 60 4:01.02 (with a wreck)
SMC - 59 4:00.7
Trinity - 59 4:02

These are honest, track tested numbers. All packs were relatively new when tested.

This testing was done in the past three consecutive weeks, with each night devoted to a company. I did everything possible to try to achieve the best performance from each pack, so there can be know speculation on biased results.

I have read all the graphs and tried to understand all of the results posted direct from the manufactures on rctech, and regardless whatever bench testing says... you just can't beat the Thunder Power 5000 mah 40c pack.

After testing these packs and seeing the results for myself... I am proud to say that I am fortunate enough to have been asked to run for Thunder Power. They have a great product and support it as well. Their warranty is second to none and their prices are great too.

If you are looking for some new packs, without a question, go with Thunder Power. They have been doing lipo batteries longer than most realize and have dominated the aviation market. Now they want to do the same on the ground.
