It is only quiet on the boards. Hopefully everyone else is out exercising their cars!
We had our opening season race this weekend at Jackson RC. Officially kicking off the first outdoor season with the A700.
Testing motors, batteries, ESC and tires and most of all figuring out what it is going to take to get the A700 dialed in. Interestingly enough, the only screws I turned all day was changing motors. I wanted to see what the car would do throughout the day as the track & temps changed. Coming weekends - we will start to tweaking of the chassis a bit.
The got faster every round. The track came in well. The more the bite came in - the better the car got.
I was really happy with the car. Love the new Hot Bodies Suburu C on asphalt. My usual standby has been the LTC on asphalt, like the way the Sub got around the track. The weather conditions were definitely early spring, east-coast style. A bit cold and windy. Track temps were never over 100 degrees but the bite was pretty good. Plenty of 'feel' in the car, consistent. Didn't do anything goofy.
The field had a bit of a rough start but once we all made out of corner 1 it was good
Very promising. From a feel standpoint, the car already is better than the 417 is placed in the ROAR Nats A-main last year. It generate bite and is consistent.
Two races so far this year - one TQ & two second place finishes.

Mr M. Dawson, is there a reason why your motor fan is so high in your Car ? It can't slide to the side a bit to lower the CG... Also no tape over the motor A/B/C solder posts to prevent the heatsink from possibly shorting them... Good run, by the way! It can only get better.......

Mark, I believe I have the same heat sink (3 Racing). However, the fan appears to be different. Did you retro fit another fan? I can't wait to get up to Jacksons this year. I'm coming back from a 7 month break and can't wait to get some wheel time with the A700. It's good to see everyone doing so well with their rides.

Survival is definitely a good reason.... I have seen a few of last year's hits, and they can easily End a good race main......

I've been wondering whether arm sweep would be beneficial on the A700. I haven't measured whether the A700 has arm sweep built into the chassis for the front arm mounts, BTW. I'm also wondering whether it's even appropriate given the swivel nature of the way uprights mount to the arm.
Does anyone have thoughts on that subject in respect to the A700, description?

I rarely ran straight pins on the Tamiya, TOP and Xray cars with a spool. Always felt like the car initiated better with some arm sweep in the car. I am trying to visualize the difference between the pivot vs. hinge pin caster blocks and can't rationalize what the difference would be.
Something to also consider is that Xray made really good use of arm sweep in the FK series of their cars. There was a totally different feel you could get out of a car with outboard rear toe vs inboard rear toe. Their cars always cornered well under power with the outboard toe.
I don't have the car in front of me but I would think we have straight pins and are effectively dialing in outboard toe.
Lets hear what the experts say...
