on another note -- anyone looking to attend IIC and run 17.5 or 13.5 should take a look at Mike Gee's 17.5 Club setup from 7 September 2013. i got a chance to run this today. it is very good, finishes super strong, nice and consistent, not too loose.

i also have a personal 'loose' setup that i've been working on. it could be good for anyone willing to hang onto a car. i haven't written this one down yet... but i will soon.

Michael, please add the diff gears info ( metal or plastic, 2 or 4 satellite gears ) into setup sheets from US drivers.

Please try to change the orientation of P17 plastic cross also as this part is not 100% symmetric.

For me our metal gears are smoother with 2-3 pcs of 0.1mm shims total for both sides under inner B85 bearings and the plastic gears are smoother without any shims or with one shim only.

Some of drivers suppose that their diffs are smoother with two metal gears. Two gears need ~1.5 times thicker oil usually.

Also I thought running 2 gears was not a good thing to do. I am not planning on running anything faster then 17.5 any time soon so maybe this is only an issue in mod?

So you are saying that I could need up to .3mm shims on both sides for the metal gears for a total of .6mm?

I was thinking this as well, but wanted to make sure before I go trying to stuff in .6mm and .3mm was really the max. However when I look at the picture for the diff mod it does show .1mm on the left and up to .3mm on the right making it a total of .4mm. So .6mm doesn't seem far off.
Also from the mod picture the shims should be between the B85 bearings and the OR05 o-ring correct?

For all the gear diff shim talk, is that for the ST07 or ST26 out drives? Or do you shim them the same? I run the ST07's and have to use 0.4mm total shims with my plastic gears to make my diff smooth/reliable.

We have used the original Spec-R plastic gears for our diffs that time and this recommendation included ST20 modification also.
Our current plastic gears are a bit wider and need less shims in average.
