Since we're on the topic of improvements/enhancement, I would like to throw out these 2 requests.
1) A tool to easily and accurately measure caster
2) A bracket to mount a fan (dual fan would be a bonus)
My motor (D3, D3.5, Sonic) is running hot compared to my belt drive cars with gearing, layout, track size all being equal. An effective and durable mounting bracket is desperately needed for us racers running 17.5 blinky.

+1 on the fan mount......and im like a fat kid is on a smartie on this thread and cant beleive i missed the info on the ball cups lol...well thanks guys im gonna make that change now and try it out this weekend.

Here is what I do to check and set caster:
Remove the 3x6 screw from the top of the hub.
Screw in a XRAY 808 outer hinge pin (# 357331) The hinge pin is long enough to read perfectly on a Hudy gauge set.
Setting caster front and rear is super easy and quick.

Today I try using 2 small bevel metal gears in the rear diff. The diff is still not as smooth as plastic sets after 8 more flights. "Gear click sound" is still heard when rotating the wheels in static. The on power steering performance is not good and cause slow corner exit.

for the rear diff, I don't know but running a T4 too , I would love metal gear in front diff to use with Ride 70 or 45 putty. (plastic front diff gear broke quickly with Ride putty)

My A700 smash 4 sets rear plastic gears in the past year. Diff gears is the weakess point in this shaft driven car with all other parts in its drive chain are metal.

What about sanding the back of the metal gears (and polish them)to loosen the mesh?

Is it not smooth because of the design of the teeth on the gears? Or because it is too tight (not enough clearance)?

I compare the gear shape between metal and plastic, they are different and looks the metal gear with a shorter teeth. I believe it is not the clearance problem as I tried loosen the diff case bit by bit and get no luck to eliminate the "gear click sound". Still looking for the root cause and solution...
The plastic gears are similar or same profile as Spec-R but slightly lower. I found they are a little notchy. OK but not great.
The Xray gear diff is amazingly smooth even under load, the best I have seen by far. It makes a big difference in the handling and confidence, especially on power.
If we could have diff gears that perform at that level I am sure the car would make a laptime even lower.
