Hi all,
i'm after some building tips for gd2 w/metal gears. it's leaking from the outdrive and was wondering what others do to combat this or am i the only one? it's just seeping out and cakes up with dirt after a race meet.
i've built it using the Max's recommendation of the small shim behind the big gears.

Hi poop,

I had this one time also. The problem is that i filled to much oil in! I found it out by running in the diff direct after the build. After this i cleaned it and no more leaking.

If you put in to much oil then it will be leaking out of the orings by the outdrives during the run/heating up. So it regulates the oil levle itself ;-)

Tip: When i finish building a gd2 i put it into the car and run it in.
Car is on the car stand and i hold alternately the left/right rear tire with my hands and hit the throttle constantly on the transmitter.
I do this ~2 minutes , then the diff will reach 25-35 degree.
If you put to much oil into diff it will regulate itselfe during this "run in" method.


In case it dont stop leaking please check the orings on the outdrives. I also saw some who damaged it during the build because the put the orings first into diff case. But this is wrong.
I put o-rings on shafts first and then insert the shaft with bearing and o-ring into diff case.


I also installed and tested the updated FFG 1.1
Super smooth and nice function with the new parts. Feels more free and "softer" now.
It also prevent the problem with the "tweaked/blocked" FFG after a hard crash. Also its no more dangerous to run without the diffcovers like recommended with the first version of FFG.

I have had good success building the GD2 - fill to capacity, leave one bleed screw undone and insert into a shock pump with that open bleed screw facing up. Apply a couple pumps of the vacuum pump. Excess oil/air will bleed out of the hole. Apply set screw + outdrive and pin.

The shock pump helps clear excess air and settles the oil with the spider gears + cross pin and main gears.

Thanks for the gd2 building tips!

questions for those running FCB: what tool are you using to adjust the camber nut? Also, do you bottom out the camber screw first, adjust caster, then set camber? what's the correct procedure?

I have a Awesomatix noob question. Onroad has recently returned to our lhs and a few of us have picked up the car. My question when reading the directions for shock settings. When moving the hook further from the shock(meaning towards the car or wider gap) does this soften or harden the spring rate?

Wider gap = softer

Hi,

Yes bigger gape is softer spring.

Its a easy way to check that. I hava a PDF reader on my iPhone and have a clear editable A700 Evo setupsheet in.
There you can check the stiffnes of spring and damper. You can put in 2mm spring and 1mm damper for example and see then the gF/mm of your setup. This is the way i alsways do when i want to change the rates.

Hanulec,

I was able to get back to Leisure Hours yesterday and tested the stiffer sway bars. The track had the same lay out but the grip was a lot lower than it was two weeks ago. After rd 1 I was tq, radio issues hampered my next two qualifiers and I lost TQ. In the main I started 2nd and got bumped around at the start and fell all the way back to dead last. I worked my way back to third with the top 4 finishers crossing the line with in 1 sec!

The sway bars were a huge help with the car not getting tight and carried more corner speed. Thanks for the suggestions.

If anyone is in the Mid-West area, there is going to be a race in Cincinnati on Aug 9th. This race will be part of the Mid-West nitro series and EP TC will run on Saturday only with three heats and a main, 17.5 and Mod only. This race is also in conjunction with the Hamilton Co fair so there will be food, rides, and demolition derby Saturday night.

For those interested here's an Excel spreadsheet i created you can use to calculate your suspension stiffness. It works on a smartphone if you have an MS Office app.
