Yes, having the pin tight in the housing is key for cross pin float and there isnt a tolerance to the 20.8 dim. I did measure the housing and 20.8 was good for me. Correct spider gear shimming also controls cross pin float as well. I agree marking in the housing and cutting and sanding would be super safe and a cleaner install. I should have taken more pics while working on it.

That is how I do it. You just take a bit off each end until it looks good. You want to make sure the diffs screw together nicely.

This past weekend I had issues build two diffs. The problem was the ST31 outdrive seating against the large shim and bearing w/in the diff. Once the o-rings got lubed better everything would fit well, but until then I couldn't get one of the outdrives into the hole.

Has anyone tried to run the EVO kit on an EX chassis or is everyone running the L or the new aluminum chassis. If so what were your thoughts?

Do you mean an FFG on EXL?
That isn't a problem -- JD great video a few weeks ago was running on the EX chassis plate.

Yeah that is what I meant the FFG that is on the EVO.

Default Gd1/Gd2
So I was told gd1 has issues and I should get gd2. Is gd2 ready to install minus filling with fluid or does gd2 need attention also? Thanks!

Two options--

Use the kit supplied gd1 and add g05st/g06st -- and never worry about it again (additionally perform outdrives upgrade)

Buy gd2 plus necessary gears/cross/shims from a 3rd party.

As Mike said the GD1 is great with the metal gears (g05st/g06st). I just added the GD2 with ARC brand internals to mine for the rear and moved my GD1 with g05st/g06st to the front diff. I just posted pics of it yesterday on thread page 350.
