The Spektrum Pro receivers (I think!) can handle an unregulated LiPo rx pack however you must be careful with how much power you're sending to the servo. Many of the 8th scale servo's are ok with the extra voltage because they're pretty heavy duty to begin with. I believe Ko and a few other have come out with unregulated LiPo approved servos that are meant to hand;e the extra voltage. I'm not sure how the small servo's we use will respond to the extra though...

That sucka must be fast as all get out! Good to know the little ones can take the extra voltage as well. I suppose they're not under the same amount of stress as the ones in 8th scale.

I wired this setup into my car and left the esc turned off and it works. I will find out tomorrow if it lasts 8 minutes.

Below is a video of our 1/12 A-main on Saturday, and the magenta car (Danny) is running the SMC 3.7V Lipo with a 13.5 for the full 8 minutes against a full main of 4cell 17.5 cars.

He ran a LRP 13.5, LRP TC-Spec ESC, 300mah Lipo receiver pack, and no regulator. We tried removing the red wire from the ESC like KHoff mentioned, but then nothing worked at all. The car did NOT work well with a 5cell NiMH pack, it started to get the "dumping" feeling after less than 5 minutes.

With the Lipo Rx pack, the car lasted the full 8 minutes and did not drop off much. You can see on the last lap that he is right behind the leader (the green car), and they are running the same speed. In fact, the lap times of the NiMH cars dropped off more than his Lipo car.

About 250mah was drained from the 300mah Lipo Rx pack during a run.

Exactly the same as 13.5 4-cell? And do you mean the feel or the lap times or both?

Thanks
Chris

Lipo single cell 13.5= 4 cell nimh 17.5

And yes I would say the same feel is there along with laptimes.

Nexus,
With your setup did you leave the esc switched off or on?

Regulator vs no regulator. Nimh receiver pack vs lipo receiver pack. Dumping with vs dumping without. Either answer has been observed.

Jesus, what a mess we've gotten ourselves into.....

Its not a mess its called testing. Next we tell you what works and what combo to use and all is well.

I know, I know... It just hasn't been real consistent yet.

wow - I'm surprised so much juice was drained from the receiver pack. i picked up a 200mah Lipo from Top to run w/ my lipo pack. maybe i need to get a larger pack.

as a note, the Top lipos are much cheaper than others I've seen:

250 mah being used leads me to believe that the pack was doing a good deal more than what a typical RX pack would. I believe 60ish mah is typical.

I used to charge more than 90mAh into a receiver pack when I ran a digital servo in 12th. It all depends on the track, car, and driver.
