15.5 Brushless?

15.5 Brushless?
Ok so here's the story. A fellow 1/12 scale racer and I were discussing 27t brushed vs 17.5 brushless. We both agreed the 27t brushed were faster than the 17.5. This got us thinking. What about a brushless 15.5 motor? Would it be closer to a 27t brushed? I simply came up with 15.5 because it falls right between a 13.5 and a 17.5. Many drivers claim the 13.5 was too fast against the 27t brushed. I just started running brushless and we all run 17.5 as a stock equivalent, so I never tried the 13.5 at all. Let's hear your opinion. Who knows, maybe the motor manufacturers will pick up on this.

the question is...do you need a motor that is faster than the 17.5?
The reason I say that is this...
People running 27t have had YEARS to perfect their setups and rollouts for it...
Take a 17.5 and just spend ONE year with it and see where you end up in 12 months.
If you start with something faster (ie: 15.5) within that same year...it will probably end up too fast for a good part of the crowd.
Look at how much faster the 27t's became over the past 12-15 years. (not to mention how much speed they picked up with batteries continuing to progress)
I'd bet if you look at todays STOCK speeds compared to 8 - 10 years ago...todays STOCK 1/12th speeds would probably look like MOD speeds of 1998

The reason is to find a brushless motor that is closer in performance to a brushed stock than the current 17.5 motors we now run.
If everyone kept asking "why do we need a faster (insert any product here)?" This hobby just might not have become what it is today.
True, it might be too fast for some ppl, but it's no different than saying open electric mod is too fast for some ppl. Which is why all these options of stock, mod, 19t, and brushless exist.
It's these options and their ability to allow ppl to start this hobby and grow with it which makes it fun. I'm just trying to see if maybe there can be other options.

And really you are absolutely right, I have been running a 17.5 in 1/12 for a little over a year now and Have made it MUCH faster through gearing and coming to know how to use the torque characteristics of the motor to reach the speeds I was running with a 27T brrushed motor.After playing with a 17.5 for a year I think I could make a 15.5 be way faster than a 27 turn brushed within 1 day of practice/ tuning.

Everyone has to get over the fact that 17.5 is a little different. No brushless motor is ever going to feel like a 27t brushed. Like stated earlier, give it a year and I bet your 17.5 is faster then any 27t.
Different is just different. Different is fresh and tasty. Just go with it.

Well, if, with proper time and practice a 17.5 will yield better lap times than a 27t brushed motor, then at what point and time will drivers want more? More performance, speed, and better lap times. And what would the manufacturers come up with to satisfy this need?
