VTA tuning Q&A
#451
I'm at Xray 30wt all around with 1 less hole open in front compared to rear. T2R kit springs 17.5/14 lb fr/rr. I went to the xray site and looked at rubber setups to get an idea of what range of adjustments to use and ended up with a set up I like a lot.

Added 2mm spacers under rear turnbuckles.
Changed shock fluid to 45/35
Added front anti-roll bar
Hopefully these changes will help me get a little more traction in the rear.

here is a general question. I got my car to hook up MUCH better than last time. was great to drive and still had lots of steering.
I am wanting to tweak it alittle more, and i am thinking of trying some sway bars from and rear to cut down a bit on body roll.
So here is my question in regards to swaybars, when you add swaybars, I have read it reduces traction, do you compensate for this by say using slightly lighter springs, oil, etc.?
Thanks for any info before hand!

well i tried the swaybars, and boy did that make a difference. I had both vehicles setup, one with, one without, basically same setups, though the car without swaybars was using a slightly lighter rear spring, and also lightweight diffs but heavier center drive shaft.
Anyway, the vehicle changed direction much faster with the swaybars, but traction was not reduced. it really felt "right". The other car without would bite more into the turns.
This is with an STR4 Pro II sedan.
Another driver using a TC5 also liked going with the sway bars.
I managed to TQ, but had motor issues.

Ok, I've never been good at setting up a car. Today I ran my new/used 415 on our track.
Using a front one way I need a lot more steering, it's pushing like crazy.
Now I have the XRay set up book downloaded and have read though it.
Here's my problem, making a change to 1/2 a dozen settings can increase front steering, but how do you choose which on to start with? Why?

TC4 27T Gearing
I have a TC4 and want to run 4 cell 27 turn stock and wonder what gearing I should start with. I am just bashing around a parking lot. I prefer 48 pitch gears.
Thanks.
Thanks.

what has worked for me in 4 cell/27t is 5.88 fdr on a smallish indoor track.
on tc3/4 I think the stock spur is 72, so a 32 would get you to 5.625. That is a starting point. Your results may vary.

That's funny, I have the opposite prob. with my 415.....way too loose, i think i'm gonna ditch the one-way for a spool...

looks like its getting close to that time again. I wonder what we will be doing out here for VTA rules since some use USVTA others VTA.
End of season last year was getting traction roll issues again.
I wonder if I am over saucing the tires. sort of like running too soft a compound in my pan cars LOL.
