I too have the SMC 5200 lipos and the xray lipo weight kit. The lipo does not fit with the 2 'L' pieces install. I only run the 2 x 30gram centre weights and tape the battery in.

I run outdoors/asphalt/rubber with 4.0t/4.5t motors.

To date, the lipos have not moved or come out of the car (even after some BIG crashes).

Gee, hope your old car's not that bad
Have you tried contacting the distributor directly? (Custom Model Cars - Matt Lemming)

Yes, they received a shipment recently. Matt seems very reasonable and I believe that a kit order has been placed and will arrive shortly.

(I am not affiliated with CMC in any way.....just my personal dealing with Matt and CMC)

that's what i didn't know, the whole reason i got the strap is because i hate taping. How close was it to fitting? If i filled away a bit would it be nice and snug?

Mine was not even close to fitting. Maybe if I dremeled away at both 'L' pieces it would fit. Battery is too long to fit properly without modification.

e-mail isn't the best way to contact Matt, he will reply to you but it will take like 2 weeks.

Best to give him a call. He is really good he will do a lot more than most people to help you find what you need.

I know the frustration about not being able to get spares and I'm sure Matt and hobby shops feel the same way.

if a SMC battery has a Length: 138.5mm (says the stormer website, way too cold out side to the garage and check) what length battery "would" fit in? Sorry for all the questions just don't want to throw away US$40 on something that wont work.

Agree....although my experience with emails with CMC (Matt) has been excellent - same/next day.

You are correct with the lipo measurement....SMC 5200 lipo is 138.5mm long. I just went and measured the length of the xray lipo weight system (distance between 2 'L' pieces) and it is 137.4mm

So if you would like it to fit within the 'L' pieces, you would need to shave/dremel approx 0.6mm per 'L' piece to get the SMC lipo to fit with causing any 'tweak' from a tight/snug fit.

I was not a fan of shaving the 'L' pieces.

Hope this helps.

that's best answer to my question that i could have ever hoped for, thanks very much.

I will also agree with Matt's service being excellent. (maybe i got unlucky with the e-mail).

I understand why you didn't want to shave the L's. Looking and pictures the thread is already close to the edge.

The chassis weights keep the battery from shifting front, back, left or right. I would then tape the batter down and you will be good.
