PIT COMPOUND CHOICE
From reading, it appears that PIT 571/572 are the choice of most for F1 indoor carpet. I thought that the Pit tires that are F1 or R1 where for outdoor asphalt?

They describe the 572, one of the best gripping rear tires as Hard.
Try not to get confused, just know that the most popular tire combo is the 571/572 no matter what they are labeled or described as.
This combo is really hard to beat on carpet and asphalt.
They work so well that Tamiya has them made for them with the TCS logo on the side so you can shop for these too and know you are getting the good stuff.
Now comes the however, the 574/575 combo is also used on carpet and has even more grip which can help or hurt. Some find the combo to be tricky to drive and not traction roll on carpet.
Another good mix is 571 fronts with 575 rears on carpet and asphalt.
Don't know of anyone running the 574 fronts on asphalt due to the added grip, 571 is more than enough in my experience.
The 575 rear can be the extra grip needed for low traction asphalt and cooler temps but can overheat and lose grip and wear out quickly.

The descriptions from Pit Shimizu are confusing and don't seem to fit.

On carpet, use the front tire sauce as final tuning thru out the day.
You can start by coating only the inside half of the front tire tread and if it doesn't steer do 3/4 or even more.
Better to start off with less rather than starting with more cuz traction rolling will most likely occur and that breaks stuff.
For me, the carpet starts with the least grip then increases quickly as more cars run and then starts to decrease slightly towards the end of the race day so I start with 1/2 to 3/4 front sauce then later no more than 1/2 and then even later may put a little more than 1/2, but that's just me.
I've seen others have their cars setup to be able to run full sauce and still not traction roll.
Never works for me tho.
