I just bought a F104W which came with a silver can. I'm placing a battery order with hobby king and figure I'll try their electronics. Anyone know of a hk esc that will work with the silver can.

For a servo, what speed and torque specs should I be looking for?

Thanks

This may sound crazy, but I can't find a brushed ESC on their site. If you can run brushless, their trackstar motors with the Trackstar 60A ESC programming card all for under $90 is a pretty sweet deal. And the combo works great. On the downside, they are not ROAR approved, but for club racing they're excellent. I'd go for the 21.5 for F1 indoor. If on larger or outdoor tracks, 17.5.

Have been a long time fan of F1.
Finally picked up a sweet deal on an exotek F1R. It is missing the servo though.
I am looking for a good servo, thinking the savox 1251. Any thoughts?

If any one has a servo that is willing to trade, I have a brand new Tamiya Ferrari F60 that I am willing to trade for. I figured this would be the next best thing.

The 1251 is a great choice! If you don't find a trade, pick one up.

Anyone running a mini servo in their F1? Curious as to how it holds up.

When I was racing F1 during the mid 90s, I was using the HS225MG from Hitec which was called mighty mini with metal gear. I never had issue with the servo and it performed beautifully. I'm not kept on pace with today's servos especially the digital ones. But what's amazing is that you can still buy the Hitec servo today via online or lhs.

Most hobby shops would still keep in stock few brushed ESCs (sport/entry level ones). They will be more than enough for the silver can johnson 540 motor.

Just bought a Kyosho KF01 Formula 1 1/10 scale gas car with a Sirio .09 engine. Should be coming sometime next week from Japan.

And ... what about parts support? Are you going to find them on kyoshoamerica site? Our LHS stopped carrying Kyosho after they part away with Great Planes and fulfillment rate was less than 50% for each order.

I had one of those servos in my Micro HP4, it froze up and died.

I’ve run Futaba S132H’s and S9602’s. the 132H is small and the S9602 is a mini. I had great luck with them in my F103’s. I’ve never used one in my F104. Between the servo mounts and front upper deck piece needing to be used to make the front more rigid, it never seemed like it was worth the effort. The F103's front end didn't depend on these other components.

The other set of servo mounts on the front end tree is for a mini servo, it will fit in no problem. That being said, it really doesn't seem any different unless you are trying to get weight off the nose.

Hey Rob, I know the servo mounts your referring to, but I'm not 100% sure they'll fit a mini servo securely unless you add some shims or spacers(sides and bottom). The 9602 is really small. It's just a bit taller than the center of the F103 A-arms. Just my $0.02
