I didn't even realize Pit was making F103 tires...which brings to question...is the 54X series of tires the same compounds as the 57X series for the F104 just made to F103 size or are they different? I've got a F103 or 2 I wouldn't mind getting back on the track if I could just find decent tires for it.

I believe they are the same. Same combos on the F104 work on the F103. On our track the R1 hards and F3 softs are the hot ticket.

Pit have been making F1 tyres for years before the F104 came along. Yes they are the same, although there will be very slight handling differences due to the different tyre sizes.

If you look here at the list of Pit Shimizus tyres you can see the same compounds are used for the same last number for each tyre.

Yeah I know they've been making them for longer than the F104 I used to sell them back in the F201 days. However the F201 tires seemed to be a different compound as they were much more temperature sensitive. Maybe it was because the F201 was so heavy it heated up the tires more but in hot climates like out here the soft tires were really horrid on the F201 as they would get greasy. Medium or hard tires all around was the ticket out here. But now on the F104 being so much lighter the soft tire seems to work.

Good to know it is just the last number that designates them. Now I can get my F103 running again too

Great info thanks guys. I haven't had much to do with F103's so that's very helpful. I've updated our Tyres Guide. Cheers

I have the Wolf WR1 that's out currently. It's an F104W chassis that has the WIDE rear rubber tires. Are there some sticky TCS type tires that will work for me? The kit tires are scale, but are not as sticky as I'd like.

My F1R's new scheme. Decals via BP at F1Paintlabs. Its the MP4/5-6 filler set I had on hand for some time.

I use the Pit 544/545 combo on my F104w at our carpet track in Dallas. They work pretty good.

Pit Shimizu 541/545 works well on my 104WGP. Try it with the silver springs up front and dial in some drag brake to get initial bite to get it to turn.

The 54X series rear tires are wide...they just aren't as tall as the stock F104W tires.

Mac, I assume that's the Pit Shimizu tires on your F104W in the pic? If so can we get a shot from further away to get a better idea how the smaller tires look with the overall scale of the body.

Thanks

Yes - they are Pit Shimizu tires on stock Tamiya wheels. Here are a couple of other angles :

I can see that, but still they don't look bad. Still look scale IMO. With those Pit S tires, do you mount them using standard beaded wheels or buy the smooth cylinder ones for foam tires?

Being smaller in diameter might help my gearing a bit too.
