The nose has a maximum height while the chassis itself has a higher maximum height for safety reasons, and a minimum cross section. By lifting the chassis higher and creating the step they can get more air under the car to drive the diffuser. With the loss of exhaust blown diffusers the cars can't generate as much downforce at the rear and therefore don't need as much at the front, so apart from the wing the front end is all about getting as much air under the car as possible.

The step noses will still be there next year, to prevent a nose riding over a cockpit in an accident, but they will be allowed to run a non structural cover over the top of the nose to hide the bump.

Has anyone tried to match the F104 Version 2 chassis and pod plate to a Pro/X1? I know the pods are different but I wondered if there was enough room to re-drill the pod? I just like the narrow links on the V2 compared to the F1R, less body cut out.

Nice! It looks like they made raised spots in the back too that might just clear the rear shocks on the FGX.
