Also, which rod ends would you recommend instead of using the original ones?

OUTSTANDING!!!! Fantastic job Ned!!

As an expert on everything Jim Clark and Lotus, his helmet was actually dark blue with a white peak visor, in case you wanted to know. I think the visor could be made of scrap lexan and painted white and attached to the helmet with servo tape.

So, what front suspension are you using? Is it an F104 chassis? Where did you get the drivers head from? And where did you find the decals?
No matter what, that is amazing!! And the HPI VTA wheels and tires really make the car!! This is the way the VF1 cars should look!! Thank you so much for posting these pictures; please post some of the chassis as well as a pictorial of how you built all of this!

I just noticed that I don't see the pinion gear on your VF1 car Ned; is it there? I assume you would need to cut away a small part of the lexan "engine" to make room for it as well as for the motor pod to move freely. Is that correct?

Also, that looks like the 3 Racing F109 front suspension, which looks good by the way; did you ever get the Tech Racing one from RC Mart yet?

Default Thanks!

Thanks to everyone for the compliments! I had fun building the Lotus! And a big thanks to Manny for the body!

I may work on the "peak" or pretend that it is Jimmy's old Bell

The front suspension is an F103 with the FGX steering knuckles, axles, and disk brakes. Yes, it's on an F104 chassis. THe head is from a Tamiya kit

The goggles are from a Williams Bros. Pilot P/N 17500

I made all the decals from logos I either found or "massaged" from the 'net. Printed with an ink-jet on clear vinyl. I backed most of them by sticking them to white trim monocote.

I like the treaded tires too. The choice of wheels is limited, but much closer than slicks and modern wheels.

The sixties was a time of great changes in F1, 1.5 to 3.0 liter motors, widening tires, wings on struts to front mounted diaplanes and rear wings over the engine. It would be difficult to figure out rules and make cars look close to "right" for more than a year or two at a time!

I'll try to get more stuff pictured/described on here but I gotta race some too! Just not neat F1 cars! VTA iis the next best!

No motor or pinion yet. I had to cut the "motor" to clear the spur and will have to relieve it more for the pinion. I'm waiting to get another F104 to use for this car as it was a nearly completed Nitro Machine.

You are correct the body has to "float" when the pod moves. I'm thinking of only attaching the interior and motor to the body to the front of the body top to allow easier movement. I have not mounted the body to the lower bracket yet and I'm afraid that may limit the movement. The parts are pretty flexible some maybe it will be fine. SOmething to test out!

It's the F109, still waiting for the Tech Racing part, I'll let you know what it looks like!
