not like I don't have enough cars/classes I run now, but have a yearning for an F1... Where should I start? No class around here so don't to spend toooooo much, but if I get one I might be able to start a class, so don't want the bottom of the barrel either. I can get stuff direct from Japan if I wanted to buy new. Tamiya seems to be what I see floating around the most. What else is out there?

Dave,
Ned from Easley. I'm very into F1 and have numerous cars. There are three of us in the area with cars and hope to at least "play" with them at the track.
We all have the 3Racing FGX suspension car, mostly because we like it, but two of us Nutdriver and me, have a number of other chassis. Probably the best one to start with is the Tamiya F104 V2. Always competitive, parts are available and many of the other cars are based on it. There are a number of other cars currentlly out, 3R F113, Serpent, and others.

Most groups favor 21.5 motors/Blinky.

Ned

While waiting for colours and other stuff, I took my freetime to rearrange the F104 wiring/elecronics today. After it was announced at our club that we will have to go 15 minutes/race with free choice of all components, I have to throw out the small 2200mAH LiPo I wanted to use. Now all electronics are standard.
RTYPEC posted an awesome wiring job some pages ago, so I tried to step into his footsteps. This is the result:

I copied the Exotek brace in function as I have some cfk leftover.

After installing the aluminum motor mount I recognized that the rear wing is touching the blue bar and therefore is bent upwards. Does somebody have a similar problem?

For the shorty LiPo I build this brace:

Thanks Ned. I'll keep my eyes out. I can get a brand new v2 kit pretty from Japan pretty cheap!

I didn't run the alloy cross brace, problem solved. Seemed like a bit if an overkill with a graphite plate and 4 screws locking the rear pod together.

Hi All, White wheels for Shimizu tires are in stock (limited), black wheels here in hopefully 2 weeks.

Thanks!

For the VF1, there is one more problem: Tires. I only know of the F201 tires that have some sort of tread and fit the F104.
It would be nice to have something that looks more like 1960s.

Free time is right It certainly does take time and you did an amazing job packing it all in there. You even have the battery plugs in the back. I couldn't get my battery far enough back without the plugs hitting the shock mount.

To give credit where credit is due, the electronics layout isn't mine. I'm just following in the footsteps of Vyger, FMW, and RedBullFiXX. They did their homework for me to copy

Speaking of RBF...paging RBF, how do you like Revy and Roberta?

There are ways to get the HPI Vintage wheels and tires to fit a 104...

Mike, do the front wheels take a 5x8 or 5x10 bearing?

EDIT: after reading the website's description regarding the total width, I'm guessing they use the 5x10. My confusion was that I have a 104w (5x8) and a 104v2 (5x10). The website just says fits 104..

Still getting the hang of these cars and a bit confused at times. I'll be getting some of these wheels, but waiting for the black to come in, so I can get black and white in same shipment.

Thanks for supporting F1 with cool stuff.
