Amazing run you had at TCS today... your car looked great ! I always love seeing pics of a car on-line and then coming across it at the tracks

Thanks. It was so much fun running the last 10 minute F1 main.

Throughout Thrusday's practice, I tried all kinds of setup changes and every change would only make it feel slightly better or horribly worse. At one point I test drove Max's (Timmy's dad) F103 and his car seemed to understeer quite a bit. I asked how he made that happen and he said he used some CA on the outter edge of the front tire. Afterwards, I tried that on my car and sure enough, it helped...a lot. That got me thinking that setups were more affected by tire choice than anything else you do to the car. I borrowed a set of super hard front tires from a fellow racer and gave them a test run. The car was good. I ended up using new pre-mount rear tires, sauced with Paragon for 2-3 hours and then lathered with 30spf suntan lotion the night before. The foams were like butter soft the next day. The fronts were really-really old firm pre-mount fronts with suntan lotion on the inside 1/3. The car would be somewhat difficult to drive for the first 5-8 laps (unfortunately we only had 2-3 warm up laps) but then would settle down and turn into a monkey car.

More stories! More stories! For those of us that couldnt make it. Id really like to see event coverage happen for F1, especially the upcoming Ultimate F1 race next month with all the different companies, setups, etc. It would be nice if the mags would pick this stuff up. IIRC, back in the early 90's when the UK mags were all over this there just wasnt anything in the states covering this stuff.

What was the tire / compound of choice for rubber?

Nice job! I thought you used the decals provided. The shape is way off, since the Type C body is the Lotus 107B mold.

Question for the group - I really like these F1 cars and want to get one. I guess I would just like to have an indoor carpet car in the stable. I would consider racing it if there was enough racers in my area (SoCal).

Which model is the one to get? F103, F103RS, F103RM, and F103RX? Not sure about the 104 - seems really new

Recomendations please as I don't know anything about these cars!

Great Job Vincent

Dont you go scratching it now

The front wing teh white is that paint or all vinyl?

I have painted mine but after a couple of hits the paint has cracked

I have sanded and undercoated teh front wing but still seemed to crack so i think the vinyly will be my next step

All the F103's are pretty much the same, except for some small changes here and there. The 15th Anniversary Edition is probably the nicest, since it comes with lots of hop-up parts. I own an F103RS and just upgraded a few parts to stay updated with the later versions. There are some people that race them at OCRC indoor carpet and TAMIYA Raceway & BCR for asphalt. WCRC is another nice indoor asphalt track for more high speed. I think they will re-open sometime in November.

Check out the pics at Tamiya USA on the TCS this past weekend. Some nice F1's were racing! I liked the ING F104 with the ribbed foams, stripe etc. Very nice.
