That is looking sharp. If the new sheets are of the same quality as the other ones I have used from F1Paintlab - count me in.

Can anyone who did the Tamiya McLaren body kit tell me what paint was used for the lean and the plastic of the wings? Is all the striping a decal or do you have to paint it? Big McLaren fan with horrible painting skills, but I would like to have realistic body kit done up. Thanks for the help.

Here is my previous F104W - my take on the MP4/6.
Paint used on the car: (Tamiya paint codes)
helmet: base coat X1, top coat X24
body / rear wing: PS1, PS20 (backed by PS34), PS5.
front wing: X1

hope this helps.

If you are talking about the vodaphone car you will want to use either plain silver (easiest can just buy a rattle can) or airbrush with Alclad chrome for lexan pn alc-114 (hardest will need airbrush). Alclad makes chrome for plastic which is part number alc-107, im assuming this is used for painting outside.

The problem with this chrome paint is surface prep. You would have to prep the rear wing with black to basically mirror flat for the chrome to be chrome. That stuff is extremely fine and even the smallest defect on the starting surface will show horribly.

With your horrible painting skills I would just stick with some tamiya or pactra silver and call it a day!

Which McLaren?
I am going to go out on a limb here.
Painting is not as hard as everyone makes it out to be. If you take your time and pay attention to what your doing, just about anyone can do a nice looking car. Sure with experience , and some skills you can take anything to the next level, but if you dont try to set speed records for body finishing, you can get good results.
The biggest thing to keep in mind is light coats, slow and steady. That and good masking will yield good results 9 times out of 10

My apologies - yes I am thinking about doing the MP-24 (Tamiya body kit). Thanks for the insight.

Can I use the regular Pactra silver on the black plastic? Do I have to do anything to prep it - like lightly sand it, or just clean it?

Thanks for all the help guys, as a McLaren fan, I don't want to make this thing look horrible. I have wanted to do a McLaren theme paint job on my off road buggies for years.

If I were you I would use the Spaztix Mirror Chrome, and no sanding with that, it will show every scratch. Just clean the body parts thouroghly with dish soap and water, and wipe it out with denatured alcohol or grease and wax remover just before painting.

Your decal sheets and other product are crack for us RC addicts.

Like the Nordica option on the B192 sheet you are making up. I won't have the two 192's done until mid-October due to business travel again. Will post pics of the girls when finished to give a few more people reason to buy some more "stuff" from you. Remember.... stuff is good.
