Gadget,
just got back from Speedtechrc, p/u new bearings. they informed me that the axle is just a little undersized causing issues on side loading. The temp fix is to wrap the axle with tape to eliminate the slop.

Hope this helps

I'm switching over to F104 front knuckles...that will get rid of all kinds of bearing issues on the front of the FGX.

Are you guys running the aluminium hexes? The stock plastic ones wear quickly and put too much pressure on the bearings causing failures.

I heard of this fix, I never did but heard good results.... Paint the axles. Try it out, like I said, I heard good results.

I was running the plastic hexes...however there is more reason to change the knuckles than just the poor bearings. Besides...I don't tighten the wheel nuts down all the way because that binds the bearings and putts too much pressure on them.

Besides the bearings being poor quality they are also too small. Bearings with a ID and OD so close are always going to be on the fragile side. Also they have the bearings too close together which increases the amount of slop in the front wheels. The F104 uses bigger bearings that are spaced out a bit more in the wheel which will be a much more durable set up.

I am running the aluminum hexes. the front axles are slightly undersized. when under load the bearing will be forced to load on an angle from the side load and the loose tolerances.
This side load forces to bearing to ride the side of the bearing and not on the race. Ive seen people lose complete wheelsets from blown bearings. The stock bearing are not the best quality either. I picked up better qaulity bearings and will do the tape or paint fix.

Thanks for the kind words Team Lotus, will post pics when its done. All decals are from F1 Paintlab and are great quality. I've just bought the 2012 version of these decals to do another body.

You can find a few options here, but it kind of depends upon your chassis/racing surface.
