C main is about to get going at IIC. Great turnout for F1 with 20 drivers.

How important is the Aero performance of 1/10 F1?

one word: Everything.

There are easily 50 different front wings for the f103 each affects topspeed, nosedive, turn in speed etc. differently. I swapped out the Factory F103 wing that came with my f103RM and swapped it out with one from RCzen and I dropped nearly a whole second off my lap time. My top speed suffered, but my turning speed was dramatically increased. The rear wing has to keep the only 2 wheels moving on the ground without dragging. Plus some models can have rear diffusers that allow you to use lessaggressive wings to reduce drag but combined give the same downforce.

Easiest way to discover this: drive your car 3 laps with your wings on. Take your wings off and TRY to drive it with them off.

Time to bust out the wind tunnels!

All joking aside it would be interesting to see actual numbers, drag, down force, etc for the various wings available. Then being RC with to many rules the class would die by outlawing certain wing sets and combinations.

[cough] TCS [/cough]

I "heard" in TCS races you CANNOT use non-Tamiya wings (front OR rear) and the body that is used MUST match the wingset for THAT body. Ex: can't use Williams wings on a Ferrari body.

http://www.tamiyausa.com/tcs/rules.php#f1 but the link isnt working for me....

One of the reasons it is so cool to see the good turnout for F1 at the IIC this weekend.

I've actually finished races with wings torn off and the difference is more extreme on the 103 than the 104.

The wings on the 104 were hardly missed, at all.

When I realized this I did try the 104 with and without, front, rear then both wings. It was noticeable but not very drastic in my opinion.

The 103 is terrible without either wing, again, in my opinion.

I'm getting a kick out of the "Is F1 the new Shortcourse" thread. I do think the UF1 Rules would be great nationally with one minor mod after reading them. They would need to be tuned to allow other chassis than the F104 into the class. The new 3racing chassis due out soon would be 10mm too wide with those rules at 190mm, but uses the same tires as the F104

1) What would be the compromise? Control tires?

2) What mods need to be done to the F102/103s out there so they can run the rubber wheel sets and be included in this ground swell of interest?

Weigh in on that thread and lets get F1 moving!

My experience is on the f103 and formula10. Never drove a f104.

Charles shot all the cars on the grid and has them up in a gallery on the UF1 site

Already been done earlier in this thread, two years ago.
Go here http://www.rc-japan.de/presse.php for the article from RC-Japan, and see here http://www.rctech.net/forum/6045516-post424.html and here http://www.rctech.net/forum/6068725-post438.html for a basic translation to let you work out what's being discussed.

It's why I always run a diffuser and TRG Advance rear wing.

Do you have the Benetton B195 or a Jordan 191 with a MSC helmet?
