Your right...not sure how I missed that Those really made setting gear mesh a lot easier. I came up with the idea shortly after the 3Racing chassis came out and worked with FPM to get them made.

Default Help with purchase decision

Hi, Im interested in purchasing a Tamiya f104 but unsure exactly which model to get. I've looked at the Tamiya f104 black special which looks very nice but since the f104x1 is on the horizon im not sure whether to wait for the new one or get the current model. So my main question is how big is the difference and should i wait or just go ahead and get the black special? Or are there are any other competitive models I should know about?

Also any recommendations for good electric components for these cars. I already have a radio & receiver. I will be running Lipo batteries.

Thank You!

Today I made pieces that fit on the body and closed things up along the chassis. I am not sure what aerodynamic effects this will have. Now it just needs to dry up tomorrow so I can get out and run the car.

Underside of the car. The rear pod everything is completely flush. The pieces attached to the body are flush at the rear and sit about level with the top of the chassis bottom plate in the front.

Looking down at the rear pod that is now the same width as the diffuser.

I used styrene to make all the parts. The rear diffuser and pieces that fill in the rear pod are one piece that is removable and held in by two screws. The two other pieces that run along the side of the chassis are attached to the body. Surprisingly the body is not much more difficult to remove or put on.
Any updates to this?

It gives the rear of the car traction. The car does push some in corners but it almost seems like a good thing. On a large track the 13.5t motor does not seem to be too much power for it. I still need to get out with some other F1s to see how it compares.

Here is a video on a larger track in a asphalt parking lot.
+ YouTube Video
ERROR: If you can see this, then YouTube is down or you don't have Flash installed.

When I took the video the track was still dusty(swept with a broom). Later in the day as the car cleared the dust from the racing line my laps times were over a second faster.

I was out of RC for a few years and just got back into it this year and came across one that while was used. It had some parts on it that made it worth getting and enough spares to build x2 and possibly x3 cars. So what started off as this:

Then after some browsing on the internet I ordered all this:

After some assembly we have this:

I've tried to get everything I could for it. Some of the harder to get stuff was:

FPM alloy arms
FPM carbon brace kit (which I haven't used all of as I can't work out where some of the pieces go since I don't have the instructions)
3racing alloy uprights
Tobee threaded shocks (I didn't fit them in the end as I didn't like the amount of shaft play in it)
Tobee spur adaptor (I've fitted a 21.5 d3 in it and the 49t spur is a bit too small to get the ratio I want. I'll have to find myself some spurs (50t-53t) before I fit it)

It has been raining though since I finished so I haven't been able to drive it anywhere outside of the garage. I'm still working on the body though so will post pictures of that when it is done.

I was surprised it was only 30g heavier than my xray t3 '11 without a battery. But with a battery because it can't fit square packs and I have to use the batteries from my mini it ends up being 40-50g lighter in the end.
F201s rock! I've got 4 of them (1 unbuilt). As you know parts are few and far between and I end up buying cars for parts but so far I haven't had to strip then (yet). That being said, I do have some parts and hopefully I can keep them running for a long time.
