Default Trinity BL Motors

Hi,

I've just bought two DUO BL Motors for use on my on road cars. The appear to have adjustable timing however the instructions included with the motors appear to be for these motors.

The end plates on these motors have nine screw holes grouped into three around the edge of the plate, the main screws that come through from the output shaft end screw into these holes.

Am I correct in assuming that these three holes allow for timing adjustment?

My other question is what is the down side of advancing the timing? The instructions say that I can advance the motor to 20deg.

Yes those 3 sets of 3 holes are for timing. 0, 10, and 20 degrees. Advancing the timing will increase the RPM and shift the power band of the motor. You will loose some torque by increasing the timing as well but its not as much of a loss as it would be with a brushed motor. I always run the DUO motors in the middle hole. The ONLY place we have found that the 20 degree hole works well is in oval.

Great thanks EA. Do you find the motors run hotter with more timing?

Yes the motors run much hotter with the timing advanced all the way.

We have done alot of testing and the middle hole is the best for tc.

Curious my 17.5 has the adjustable timing yet my 13.5 doesn't? Both are Trinity motors

Just to clarify, different escs do add different timing, so in general how much total timing to run the 13.5 DUOs at?

The original non-ROAR-legal DUOs had no timing adjustment. These should have cans matching the color of the endbell.

The ROAR-Legal newer DUOs feature adjustable timing and a silver can. Same color coding as before(green=10.5, blue=13.5, red=17.5).

Going to use DUO 17.5 on up coming race, may I ask what is a good final drive for using on indooar carpet racing? And what temp? I am using it on Mi3.5 with Speed Passion GT V1.1...with software timing turning all the way up. And I think I would leave the mechanical timing on the motor in the middle position just to play safe..thanks.
