The future of 1/12 scale

Think you're both right! For those prices I don't mind getting a dedicated setup for a 1/12 pan car and not psych myself out. Can't wait to run pan car again. So pure.
HowardCano, can you point me to those $30 1S lipos and the $50 boosted ESC? Also, any recommendations for tire truers? Had/sold my OFNA automatic (Hudy clone) with all my arbors.

I used to reckon the same about 2s or 1s , but with 2days cheap dedicated 1s esc with built in booster it really simplifies things, also I found heat to be a non issue, even with a 4.0 turn motor in it, cool running is a safe bet, the only speed limitations are the few random small bumps in the straight at my local track prevent me from gearing to long ( I don't want to fly my 1/12th again ) definitely a fan of 540 sized motors for 2 reasons, firstly rear traction is an issue at my local track (low grip outdoor asphalt ) I cant afford to lose any weight at the rear, secondly 540 sized motors are common and motors can be changed to or from 1/10th as an example I bought an lrp x20 4.0 turn motor for my 1/10 tc but it wasn't suitable for this car ( I thought it had too much power, others thought I had 2 little talent ) this motor now lives in my 1/12th but would have been a waste if my s120 only took 380 sized motors. We are never going to make everyone happy but what we do have is a pretty versatile affordable class that is also fast, although being mainly an indoor carpet class it can be incredible in a mod class outdoors, hey I wouldn't have mine if it didn't work at my local outdoor track, I may be the minority but 1/12th's flexibility, simplicity ,affordability and speed make it a great class of car

Thanks, everyone! Are the HobbyKing 1S and ESC good enough for racing, rather than just bashing?

Absolutely. Ran them for a long time. Running the new Hobbywing XR10 justock now.
Even though it's rated for 2s it runs perfect and strong with no booster in 1s 1/12 scale. I do run the 4 capacitor bank though. They are nice because they have a smaller footprint than the Trackstar as well.

To be honest, if an ESC works it's plenty good for racing. By rules they have to activate their windings within about 5 microseconds seconds of true, and all of them have internal resistances which are less than a centimeter of wire, so don't worry about it.

Thanks again! You guys are a great group. Going to visit my nearest 1/12 track, indoor carpet, TQ Racing and see if I can pick up a decent used chassis to outfit.

About the Roll-Out. I'm aware what it means and how it's calculated. The thing is I don’t know how to use it. In other words how to determine how much Roll-Out is needed on certain track. Mod is my choice of class.
Thanks, L
