Default tc5r assembly questions

hi,

i have a new tc5r. a little confused with the spool option assembly,-do i build the spool (spool pad kind) with diff balls or not? the maunal pictures for the spool is a little confusing.

also, i have only one turnbuckle i could not assemble- with one end not threading to the ball cup - any advice on this problem?

thanks

I have not personally built the slipper spool so I could be wrong here... BUT... after looking at the manual online it would appear that you build it without the balls. But again, I would seek a second opinion just in case.

I had to press pretty hard when threading on the ball cups when building my turnbuckles. I think it's a safe bet to say that they are just though to do in general. I ended up taking my reamer and lightly (VERY lightly) scraping away some the material inside the cup and that made it a bit easier to thread. Just make sure its going on straight

Also, (I highly doubt it though) check the end of the tie rod for any unusual finish, as the screw finish on the end of the tie rod may be faulty.

If the thread on the rod end is not looking burred over/faulty you just need to put a little more pressure into the ball end you are screwing into it, it can be a tight fit sometimes.

Try a little light oil on the thread and see if it helps

When you build the spool you don't use the balls in the pulley. However, you do use the smaller thrust balls which is not displayed in the manual. This was discovered and posted on the TC5 thread by the team drivers.

Also, when you do build the spool put some locktight on the screw as this should also prevent it from getting loose which can happen if you don't.

Yes this has been discussed on the TC5 thread soon after the release of the "R" and foam model release this year. It allows the spool to give easier if and when impact happens, this is easier on parts.

In the UK it's known as a slipper spool for the very reason the thrust race balls are left in

on the tc5r manual--page 8 step 3.

how many and what mm shims do i use for the front arm mount to bulkhead connection? Should I shim them evenly as opposed to the rear-where I want to shim them unevenly to get rear toe to point in?

From what it shows on the kit setup(which is what I'm using to start with), there are no shims anywhere except for 3 deg worth at the rear of the rear arms.

In the dif pully there are 12 holes and so there are 12 balls.
What do you do when building the slipper spool? Put the thrustballs where the diffballs should be when building a dif? Are there that much thrustballs? (haven't bought the kit yet, but want to know upfront.)
Do you have to put diflube on them before fitting in?

How tight should the slipper spool be set?
