Any help would be appreaciated! Oh yea, I will make an appearance at Mimi's if I can figure this out. Tires first then motors, electronics then bodies.
360 has a good 17.5 following. For tires you want to start with Jaco Yellow rears and magenta fronts, until the grip really starts picking up, then switch to lilac or double pink in the front. Don't forget to glue the bead on the yellows, the foam will peel from the rim easier if you don't. For a beginner club racing, cut the tires around 1.85 rear and 1.75 front.
If you don't have the gear, and are starting fresh, go with any of the newer brushless systems (Tekin RS, Novak 4-cell GTB or Sphere comp 2007 - they are all decent). Brushless is the class of the now. While brushed can be faster, it takes a good tuner to extract the power. Brushless will pass brushed as we figure out how to work with them. For gearing a brushless 17.5, you will want the smallest spur you can find (somewhere in the mid 70s) and pinions from around 43 - 53+ (depending on motor and roll-out)...
As far as body shells, the Parma Speed 8 is probably easier to drive, and the Protoform Speed 12 has more steering. The Parma Speed 8 HD I'm told is as agressive as the 12. I have yet to meet a pro who can figure out when to use the 12b on carpet.
These have all been solid starting points for 12th. Good luck.
