Does anyone know what kind of motor we're running at the Nats for GT2? Also, are we allowed to use the hi speed 52spur from the f201 in GT3?

the 52 spur was used last year. I would think if we run silver cans it would be fine.
As for Nats motors. I would assume that the silver can would be the choice. The black cans found to be short lived, for a weekend of racing, where as the silver can is hearty, and can hold up all weekend.

What pinion gear do you use with a 52 spur? 27 teeth or does tamiya make bigger ones?

27, 26, and 25.
I would love something bigger, but haven't found one.

27 tooth makes the ratio just about right.

Hey all-I wanted to let you guys know my TCS regional winning TB02 will be on the for sale forums in a day or so. Its a tricked out TB02 and a EvoIIISE all in one. I need to buy a ton of Tamiya parts, tires and bodies and need to free up the cash. I hate to see it go.

27/52 is 5.01. Is that the lowest a silver should be geared? I havent' found any metric pinions higher than 25T. What brand is it?

There i sKAWADA model company and
GPM racing products, both these companies make 26 and 27 tooth pinions with Kawada making upto 31 tooth

I bought a 28t kawada pinion in the metric pitch, And it was smaller than my tamiya 27t I tried another brand to (forgot who) and again it was smaller.

I've got a TB-02 I'm ready to build. Hopefully, this will be my entry into the 2006 TCS at Trackside. So, I want to build it carefully and practice during the summer and fall.

My questions are:

Should I add sway bars while I'm building? Or, aren't they needed? Or, are they easy to add later?

What about shock oil? 50 all around? 60 in front, 40 in rear? Something else?

Should I get hex screws? If so, where can I get some? Or are the Tamiya Phillips heads OK. I've read that it's worth it to buy a Tamiya metric screwdriver. Any thoughts?

Anything else I should know before I start building?

Hex screws are nice. Tamiya makes shock oil. The soft works well for me. I started out with sway bars, and took them off. Everyone I run with told me to build it to kit specs and drive it. Adjust after that.

id buy hex TI screws for the motor mount since this will get a lot of use/wear. switch over to any type of hex (steel or Ti) and you'll be okay. the stock screws suck.

You've bought the wrong ones. Kawada make the 0.6 28t pinion which will match the f201 52t spur gear.

You can also get 0.6 29t to 31t pinions to fit a 49t spur gear from tobee craft.

The 49t spur gear holder and spur gear part no's are:

Don't over tighten the screws, the screw holes can strip pretty easily especially the gear box ones and upper arm mounts.

Buy a pack of Tamiya 53587 5mm shim set to shim out the slop in the wheels.

Buy the 53570 clamp type aluminium wheel hubs (4mm thick). You'll find that the plastic ones won't last long and after a few crashes, your wheels will wobble like jelly.

Make sure the bearing behind the bevel gears is seated properly - otherwise you'll get binding of the drive train.

Sway bars are easy to add later, best to build the kit and run with no sway bars first.
