Aluminum motor mount got too hot and distorted the plastic chassis its mounted on and gearbox cover beside it. Anyone experience this? Its very hot here in the Philippines.

maybe its not a good idea to install motor mount and just use the motor heatsink coz the material is plastic.

depends on motor. If its a silver can. I use a heatsink, or the reedy heatsink fan. If its a roar stock type motor, the heatsink will cover the holes that allow air to pass through the motor, and not allow it to stay cool.

But do you use the aluminum motor mount? Its mounted on plastic which it melted on mine.

Default Heat sink

I use an aluminum motor mount and no heat sink when running a 27 turn. With a silver can I run with the heat sink and aluminum motor mount. No problems either way.

What motor were you running when you melted the chasis?

That might have been the issue there. Heck the black cans get pretty hot with a 55 / 25. You might have too low of gearing for the Type S motor. Try the 22 pinion, or a 61 and as big of a pinion as you can go with it.

Post Heat sink

I am running a 58/19 with a 27 turn motor. When I went to a 58/20 it started to get to hot. On the other hand I run a 52/27 with a silver can and it's no problem. I have no experience with the black cans but many of the guys here run TCS Canada where that is the motor. I was just curious what motor you were running with that gear combo.

Post Type S

Thank you. They ran those at the Atomic Hobby indoor series. Was it the Red or the Blue writing on the can. When my friend ran his it was the blue endurance version and he always kept his ratio in the 8's. It sounds like it was just to high a gear ratio for the motor. I would ask dsrbltoys or Tamiya Racer on this one they are excellent with gear ratios and I've never run that motor.

So you mean that my gear ratio is too high and that I should make my gear ratio lower maybe in the 7.2 to 8 range? I've attached a pic where the recommended gear ratio for type s motor is. Tell me what you think guys.
