anybody uses lube on their gears? on the spur & pinions?

i'm thinking bout using some dry lube like the trif-flow stuff..or grease..

inputs?

For gears, most chassis require either no lube, or a very viscous lube, specifically diff lube. Don't use greases or anything like that, you'll produce parasitic drag on your drivetrain, that'll defintely slow you down. Sure use the dry stuff, but don't over-do it, you'll end bogging down the drive train.

On the TC-3 diffs, I've had good luck with white lightening, that's sold at bike stores.

white lightning is crap, at all costs do not use white lightning. it will turn into wax and not matter how little you use it will procuse drag in the drivetrain. i suggest that you ask your local bike show about krytech, if they have not heard of it, then go with a fluid that is put out by paragon ( the same company that makes the popular line of ground FX traction compounds) called ultralon. it is a dry lube that goes on wet and dries into an almost teflon like coating on the gears, this stuff is amazing. :smile:

but what ever you do... no white lightning... :mad:

my kit came with some grease stuff to be used with the diffs.

but im asking bout lubing the gears, spurs & pinions..

A regular bar of soap works the best.

Thanks for the info, I"ll check out krytech. Although in my experience, I haven't had any problems with my white lightening turning into wax...

You can also take the krytech and allow your spurs to soak in it overnight, remove them and allow them to airdry.... WORKS great..... However DONOT do this with diff gears or diff pullies, The lube in the ballholes can allow slippage....

What is this trick with plain old soap?

Just rub it on your spur and pinion. Makes a nice lubricant. Makes them run extremely quitely and wear is reduced. There is a small tech article about it in the new RC Car Action.

White Lightning
 

Guys;

If you place a drop of White Lightning on a non-porus surface and allow it to dry, it WILL become waxy. However, I have NOT seen this when applied in a correct manner. A very small amount is all that is needed.

There is also a Dry spray Lube availible at Home Depot's.

i have seen the white lightning spray, but i have yte to use it becuase of my experience with the other stuff.
