How do you know what spring rate is ??

Hi all

Over many year of this hobby I have collected many different types of springs is there something that I can use to find out what spring rate each one is ???

If you know the brands there are lots of spring charts on the web. If not you could get a spring dyno but they are expensive (a lot more then just buying a new complete spring set)

Or build your own spring tester. All you need is a digital scale and something to compress the spring an exact amount. I use a drill press.

What I do is get a drill press set it to where it will only go down so far and do all the springs this way with the scale underneath the spring

u could rig a holder and a micrometer such that when u had a given amt of weight and the spring drops 1in, then u have ur rate. crude but efficient for the job.
