For me it is quite clear why it is not popular to run Mod in the US.
It is the tires. Foam vs Rubber. Check any US race where they run Mod Rubber (snowbirds 2006 if I recall correctly was one where the best nonUS drivers run Rubber so one can compare their times to any foam mains). The laptimes are normally BELOW 19T foam. The mod motors are undrivable on foam. Heck they became undrivable on rubber too so EFRA took one cell out to tame them down. It is that simple. That and the small tracks. I raced locally in Austria and Hungary and even our cheap carpet tracks are 90+x60+ feet. The outdoor tracks we share with the 1:8 gas cars... go figure. Then I moved to Michigan and was shocked to see all that foam cars running on stock motors on tiny track made of hardwood boards. I had no problem controlling the 17T superstock on rubber even as a novice but came here swithced to 27T and Foam and spent all my money on spare parts...
So in summary I think the foam (driveability) is killing mod in the US for the masses not cost.

Hmm, Why top drivers don't use 2,4Ghz systems? In A main only Volker have 2,4.

to bad grainger was forced to retire due to illness.
I've seen others to using 2,4.
rubbish i just ran my 2.4 a few times but surely it is no slower then my previous 40mhz. the only difference is i don't have disturbance anymore on the left hand side of the track that i used to have before.
and if people like volker(sanwa) and grainger(ko) are using it i suspect no trouble with the system or they would have opted for the old as well not sure about spectrum.

Interesting that Chris Grainger was using 2.4GHz, he normally runs 27MHz at UK events!
I think some of the guys who are slowly switching over to 2.4 pull the aerials out to keep the balance they are familiar with, maybe they will reduce how far they extend them over time.
I prefer not having to look past the 'spaghetti' of aerials during a race.
