That J71 looks GREAT! You really took a lot of time to make it look totally unique. The paint scheme kind of makes it look like it has tee tops. Black nose treatment nice too.

Here's a couple of in-progress photos of a pair of bodies I'm airbrushing for an out of state racer. HPI 66 Mustang notchback and a HPI 70 Boss Mustang. The guy I'm doing them for has got some special personal ties to both of these cars and their color schemes from his past. Its nice to try to recreate something for somebody. I'll have better photos in the future in outdoor light. We hit a record in Indiana for snow this year, so outdoor photos are hard to get!

Thanks. Apparently there was an option for vinyl inserts on the Javelins that looked like t tops.

Mustangs look good. Nice details like the chrome bumpers.

still dialing in a McAllister IROC Camaro for the "OUTLAW" VTA guys - here's a simple rendition (cause I suck at painting) aimed at the #48 Dick Hoffman and Dave Horchler Camaro. (They ran a 70 Camaro in 4 races in '72)

I May get brave and try to paint the black - and have vinyl done for the red stripes, or maybe ALL Vinyl...

I am fixing to start on a Protoform '71 Firebird. On the 2pc nose, should it be attached to the body before applying fasmask and paint? I will be using RCS Candy paint with a RCS Chrome/black backing. What is the best method to attach it?

I would (did) paint them separately. To join them, I would use some small hardware and back the whole joint up with Shoe Goo on the inside. I tried thin tape on mine and it didn't hold well so I had to use Shoe Goo over that. It did okay, but in hindsight fasteners would've worked much better.

I'd paint the nose before attaching it to the body. Usually the preferred method of attachment is a combination of shoe-goo and strategically placed fasteners.

Thanks guys. I've always painted 1pc bodies, never done a 2pc. Jon's candies should look great on the firebird with all the curved body lines. I just hope my airbrush skills are up to the task

I've never seen a two-piece body with a design continued seamlessly onto the nose (or detachable spoiler).

Usually, the loose pieces are painted a solid color and attached after the fact.

It will be one solid color from the nose to the body. I have no plans on trying to carry anything across the seam for sure

I would love to see the body that SW Tour has pics of approved for VTA. With his decals, I think it looks as close to "real" as many of the other currently approved bodies.

I'm still working on a little bit different GRILL to simulate the early style (This one is a combo of the later grill and early pieces. (The Early style grill will be a little taller - but my first version just didn't have enough "V" shape to fit the nose.

another "EASY" paint job for me will be an ALL WHITE version of the Chaparral Camaro - I probably won't do the blue stripe and bowtie on the roof - just door bowties w/ numbers on the hood and deck lid.

Carl has the bowtie decals. I know you like to make your own, but....

When you make a set like the ones you have pictured about, I am going to want a set as well.

LOL I made one set of the bowties already (now I need the body to put them on) - I'm having fun making decals (it's a challenge I'm enjoying)

I'm getting a stack of decaled bodies - I really need to get some boxes and sell some of them, so I can do more...
