You would think that one of these manufacturers would be all over making a Pontiac T/A 67-72 since the brand is no longer around to pay royalties to.... Come on Protoform. One body?! geezzz.......

They might not be selling cars, but someone will surely still own the name and designs.

You can get the "Smokey and the Bandit" (74?) Pontiac T/A here

That would be 77-78, also wouldn't be legal for usvta events. I'm sure some clubs would allow it though, I know we would if someone had it.

True -- our group runs a "USVTA OVAL" program -- they allow ANY "vintage" body that is at least 20 years old or older made by any manufacturer.

Your actual mileage may vary ;-)

That would probably be GM that owns the name, rights and design. Just because GM shut down Pontiac doesn't mean they gave up the name.

I bet Johnny Socko could put a 71-72 nose on that sucker and it would look great. Its not far off from the front axle back.

There's a great business opportunity for somebody -- just pull the nose clip for that bad boy.

Thank you to Squarehead and RobK for the tips on shooting flat black, aka 'murdered out', aka Darth Vader. I sprayed my first one for my oval car last weekend.

I'm going to paint everything like this for at least the next year. I may even shoot one in flat gray.

I used plain old Rustolium, and Rustolium tail light paint for the window tint. This is the before picture, but after a three day race it looks exactly the same. In fact, looks were the only saving grace because my truck was pig slow all weekend.

Thanks again.

Thx

I like that paint-job, it definitely stands out from all the rest, in a "less is better" kind of way. Thumbs up!

I'm not sure why people use the phrase "pig slow" when pigs can easily outrun a human and are surprisingly quick & agile...you've heard the saying "slicker than a greased pig"?

It was really tough. You mask the windows (inside and outside), scuff the body with a scotchbrite (both sides), then you spray it (all of it).

Yes, I painted it on the outside.

Thanks. And point taken. I always thought pigs were slippery, I never considered them particularly speedy. My brother had a pig for an FFA project. My mom named her "Matilda". I called her "Lunch".

OK thanks

I've been looking for some Tamiya PS-55 to do the matte finish but haven't been able to find it anywhere :-(
