Default Formatting batteries?

I would buy bulk unmatched GP 3300 cells for practicing. But I don't know if these cells should be formatted before the first use. In the old days bulk NiCd had to be formatted, but what is the situation with NiMh? And if yes, what charge/discharge cycles are recommended?

Check out Fukuyama Batteries in my signature. They sell a brick of cells that is already brought to life with their CET (basically safe zapping) they make great practice packs.
