body of email i recieved.

"This is the subscription to RCTECH.NET's premium membership that you
subscribed to; it's an auto-renewing subscription via your PayPal account.

Ampdraw no longer handles the processing for this feature of the site
though, and your account should be moved over to the new system - you
can see more information in this thread:

http://www.rctech.net/forum/showthread.php?t=208595

If you have any issues with the subscription, [email protected] would
be the address to contact. Alternatively, if you no longer want to be a
subscriber you can cancel with PayPal.

Hope that answers your question.

Thanks,

Jason"

You would have to cancel the subscription to the site through Paypal. I had the same issue with LiveRc. I wanted to renew that account, but not when they wanted to take the money. You just have to watch when you sign up for stuff like this to not set it up as a subscription.

Its not a good/healthy way of doing business if you're not notified this will happen imho.

Again, purely *IMHO* If the new owners chose a different way of dealing with subscriptions over ampdraw then they should have pm'd or emailled every current member. It's only polite.

Not looked into it that far but, yes- you are a member , but it may also be similar to a direct debit scheme I am guessing?

If one of the terms of the membership is to provide paypal details and allow auto renewal (and existing members have been told of this) then that is all fair.

Not a member myself though so like I say.... just gathering my thoughts so prove me different if that is the case

I don't remember signing up or being notified taht it was a subscription. It was probably in the fineprint somehwere. I'd go and check, but I don't know where to go to check. I can't even find where the thread was that originally hyped the membership. I thought I remembered there was going to be something special like t shirts or something for members.

Honestly, besides saying tech elite next to my name I don't know of anything I got out of that subscription!

A couple of months ago, I noticed a renewal for this site and the Tech Elite status and wondered how they did that but didn't say anything. I did complain a bit about the several days it was taking to load a page but they fixed that and all was good....

now, I see my renewal fee was only good for a few months as I don't have Elite status any longer....

bummer......

Heh...I'm paying for a RC TECH account I can no longer use (Desolas) since someone out there didn't like my comments about ROAR and had a moderator ban me...after a month I gave up and created a new account. I'm paying for the Tech Elite on that account still.

Good times...

But that reminds me to go cancel it before it renews again in 6 months..

It's also interesting that it's a charge from Ampdraw.com .... do they still own RC TECH, shouldn't the parent company be dealing with this?

I want a refund...

To their credit though, it does say this:

The 6 month and 1 year are marked with a "*" indicating they will renew. However it is pretty standard to make it easy for someone to cancel a subscription and I see nowhere to do that. Even porn sites allow you to quit.

Think they own U a credit and a apology , just hope they don`t get even more political with the Moderating .

That is one reason why "Tech Talk" is no longer popular.....

wow, this is screwy, i'm looking at where it says skypilot and it says tech master,

dawn said she didn't have it, but i'm reading it.

maybe i need to clear my cookies and reload..

oh well, i still gotta figure out if i'm mad or not, i use the crap outta this site so i shouldn't mind, but i never was a elite member before and didn't pay in the first place (at least i don't remember paying) so i should feel ripped off. oh what to do, oh what to do.

Hmmm... I got the auto renewal thing too, but since I use the site alot, I didn't really mind... I also checked and the amount was the same as I paid last year, which covered a full year... I better check to make sure I got a full year for my money...?????

NOTE -- I also no longer have the 'tech' symbol under my name... That bites...

NOTE#2 -- I have cancelled this subscription, so it won't happen again, but I still have paid for rights/services, etc. that I don't have...

Subscriptions are automatic with Paypal. No notification. RC Tech can't cancel them either. you have to. This happened to me with one of my servers for my gaming team.
