Need tire recommendations - 1/12 asphalt
 

So I'm building my new Associated 12 R5 to race on a smooth asphalt track.

The track will actually be a bit larger then in this picture as we are now expanding it, so it will have a bit more high speed.

I have no idea what tires to try. Does anybody have any real world experience running on a similar track?

i would think you will use the same tires as the 1/10 pan cars. they seem to be using pinks at all for corners.

hello - i am also building my new r5 for this track - this is Jason Douget. You should go to one of John Stranahhan's threads - they are listed by his name. He is a guru with this and has been instrumental in helping the 1/10th and 1/12th oval class get going at Mikes in porter on asphalt. He has a thread on the on road forums called 1/10th/1/12th oval, pan and others or something like that - Race ya soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:nod:

keep in mind they run different foams on front right corner - pinks and greys are what I will be running but if i find that the track has high grip like last time we raced i may run a different front compound as to notscrub speed - it reaaly depends on the amount of aggressive sweepers the new design has - I CANT WAIT:tire:

There is only one tire you need. XXPink fronts, rears :)

Start with those pink's all around. Use a full coat of traction compound on the rear tires and none on the fronts.
If you need more steering, apply a little traction compound on the inner side of the fronts. Increase if needed.
If your car spins out, use thinner center shock oil, and if neccessary, a lighter center hock spring.

Air temp 92 F. Track was loose and dirty fron rain the day before. A lot of dirt thrown up on the car.

Tried pink rear pink front Paragon on Rear, Silver center spring. Had too much steering. Went to Magenta (harder) front copper center spring (weaker) and this improved. Now mid corner cornering traction was well balanced on the slower corners.

Sweet track. Where are you guys located?

the hot setup I've found so far on asphalt is front jaco double pink and rear jaco pink. the larger the rear tire the better. rotating new/dry (not used that day) tires on the rear end helps a lot with traction too.

In 1/12th we never run pinks up front. The most common tires for outdoor asphalt are 2x pink front and rear and 2x pink front with pink rears. Some guys like magentas front and rear and they do work good. You never want to go harder than a 2x pink up front on asphalt in 1/12th.:cool:
